Hello everyone! Nina-chan here!
For those of you who are new to my story, WELCOME! I really hope you guys enjoy reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it. This is my very first Vampire Knight fanfic, so I have a lot of high hopes for it. As you guys will realize. There's a lot of OCs as well as some out of character, characters. The story does take place in an human AU, and, I've switched many things around. I hope you guys enjoy those changes. If not, I'm always open to constructive criticism. Other than that, I hope you guys enjoy the story.
For those of you who are coming back after that long break I was forced to take, first of all I just want to say THANK YOU for coming back and still believing in my story. You guys have no idea how much that means to me. Also, I want to say a big I'M SORRY for taking so long with updating the story. Last time I was around here I gave you guys an update of what was happening in my life and why I haven't had the chance to update the story. For those of you who forgot, it was because I became a mom. I had a pair of twins two years ago, and my life became really hectic. Between getting used to being a mom, school and everything else, I just had a lot on my plate. Once I finally manage to gain some control over my life, I was given the news that my boyfriend's visa couldn't be renewed, because he was no longer a student. (My boyfriend is from Germany, and he had come to the US to study. That's how we met, we used to go to the same school.) So, we needed to sit down and talk some things out, because it no longer was the two of us, but we had two children together. So after a lot of thinking and talking, we decided to move to Germany instead of staying in the US. So, when I finally got used to al the changes in my life, I was moving halfway across the globe. Fun times. So, the reason why I've been so MIA has been because I've been trying to get used to living in this country, getting used to pretty much everything that's happened. However, I finally got somewhat used to all of this, and I decided to get back into this, before you all forget about me. I hope you guys enjoy the story, I've pretty much rewritten the whole thing, as well as added a couple more chapters. Thank you so much for all the support. This is for all of you.
Nina-chan~
Chapter 1: Leaving Home
Everyone who knew Kaien Cross knew that he was typically a cheerful person to be around. Overall, he was very sweet and kind hearted man. Even during the worst of times, he was always smiling and trying to make everyone around him feel better. The only time Kaien's personality would drastically change, was whenever his daughters' safety was put into jeopardy. In that case, he could be anyone's worst nightmare. He would do anything to keep his two daughters safe, no matter what it took. And it was that way of thinking, that had forced him to make one of the hardest decisions of his life.
"Are you still thinking about it?" Asked a man harshly. "If you were going to cry so much about it then you shouldn't have done it." He really didn't understand why Cross was making such a big drama out of this whole situation. He was the one who came up with the idea, he should've known the consequences of it.
"Nee Yagari, why do you have to be so heartless? I'm going to get separated from my two beautiful daughters and you are behaving like this is an everyday thing. My little girls are going to go away!"
'Here we go again.' Thought Yagari as he saw his friend cry like a child, screaming about not wanting to let his daughters go. Yagari has been enduring this torture for the past two weeks already, and it's wearing him thin. He understood why Cross was being so emotional, but he should get over it already. So Yagari decided to play his secret card.
"Well, they can stay here with you and risk their lives. The choice is yours to make." After those words, Kaien totally stopped his drama and his face became serious. He wasn't going to send his daughters away just because he felt like it, he was sending them away because he knew that way, they were going to be in a safer place.
Kaien Cross was one of the most powerful men in the country, and with time he had gain a few enemies. About a month ago, there was an attempt on his life. Of course, he made sure no one knew about this, especially not his daughters. He knew the second they learned about it they were just going to worry about it. Only the closest people to him, like Yagari, knew about the attack. Kaien knew that if someone was after him, they were probably going to target his daughters. He was not going to let any harm get to his daughters.
With this mindset, he came to the conclusion that the best thing would be for his daughters to be away from him, in a place where no one could find them, at least until he found out who was after him. So, he decided to send his daughters to a broad school for privileged children in the countryside. His late wife, and mother of his daughters, had studied there when she was the girls' age, and he figured he could use this as an excuse instead of telling them the truth. His wife had died when the girls were really young, so they were always asking questions about her and wanting to know more about her. They thought that going to this school was going to help them get closer to their mother, somehow. Even when Kaien knew that he was doing this for their own safety, a part of him felt guilty for lying to them. Another part of him felt depressed because he would have to let go of his little girls. It was just not fair.
"I know is all for their safety, but still, Yagari they are my little girls. They have been with me ever since they were born. This going to be the first time I'm separated from them. I'm going to miss them so much. This is going to be horrible." Yagari couldn't help but sigh at this explanation. He only had one son, who was pretty much an adult by now, but as distant as they seem, Yagari knew how much it would bother him if he had to send Kaito away because of something like this. He could understand the struggle his friend was going through, yet he still thought he was overreacting.
"Kaien, sorry to break it to you, but they are not your little girls any longer. They are both 17, and pretty mature for their age if you ask me. That would be like me saying Kaito still my little boy, even though he's already 23. They were going to be more than alright. Besides, is not like you are sending them away and never seeing them again. You can go visit them whenever you wish, and they will be coming back during the holidays. So stop being such a crybaby about all of this." Explained Yagari in an attempt to make his friend feel better.
Before Kaien had a chance to say anything at all, a beautiful young girl walked into the office. This was Kaien oldest daughter, Juri. She was a very beautiful girl with a petite body, large honey colored eyes and golden curls that went down to a little above her waist. She was a very smart girl with a sharp tongue, much like Kaien. Actually, out of his two daughters, Juri was the one that mainly took after her father, physically and mentally.
"I'm sorry for interrupting dad, Yagari-san, but I just wanted to let you know that dinner is ready." Announced Juri, hoping that she hasn't interrupted something too important.
"Thank you dear, we will be down in a few seconds." Smiling at his daughter, Kaien stood up from his chair. Juri nodded and made her way to the dining room, where her sister was probably waiting for her.
"Are you staying over for dinner tonight?" Kaien asked Yagari. More than a friend, Yagari was like family to Kaien, and very often he was staying over for dinner.
"You know I typically don't refuse to have dinner over here, but tonight is going to be one of those rare nights where I have to. I still have to errands to get done. Besides, I'm sure you could use some time alone with your daughters. Tell them I wish them luck. I'll tell Kaito to send them a goodbye message or something." He knew the girls were kinda fond to his son.
"Well I won't keep you from your duties. Tell Kaito I say hi. I won't be in the office tomorrow morning since I will be taking the girls to school, so I'll be counting on you. I'll have my phone on me so call me if you need me. I'll be back after lunch, I'm guessing." With a quick nod and a handshake, Yagari was gone.
Once Yagari was gone, Kaien walked through his luxurious mansion until he reached the dining room, where he found his two daughters already waiting for him.
Juri was sitting in front of Yuki, her younger sister, and they seemed pretty engulf in their conversation, to the point that neither one of them realized their father had just walked in. Yuki was Kaien youngest daughter, and pretty much a clone of his late wife. She had big, warm brown eyes that matched perfectly with her short brown eyes. Like Juri, she had a petite body and out of the two, Yuki was the shyest and calmest.
"Hello girls." Kaien said as both girls looked at him and smiled.
"Hey dad." Both girls replayed at the same time.
"Where's Yagari-san? He usually always stays for dinner." Juri asked as his father took his seat.
"He had some errands to run, and I think Kaito is home from college for a few days. So even when he didn't say anything about it, I know he probably wants to spend some time with him, so it would be just us for dinner." Once again, Kaien was in his overly cheerful mode. He couldn't help but feel this way whenever he was with his daughters. They were pretty much his entire world, and nothing makes him happier than being with them. The only other people who was capable of making him feel this happy was his wife, who have been gone for over 10 years.
Soon, of the servants who worked in the house served dinner. Kaien had talked to the cook to make sure he would cook all of his daughters favorite plates. Something the girls really seemed to appreciate considering how wide their smiles were at the moment.
"So you girls think you are ready for tomorrow?" Asked Kaien after their dinner was served. While they were excited about going to the same school their mother went to, they were also not looking forward to being away from their father, and having to deal with spoiled rich kids.
"Of course we are dad. We are so ready to go and deal with a bunch of rich little bastards who believe they own the world. I'm so excited I can't wait." Answered Juri full of sarcasm. Yuki just burst out laughing and Kaien had a hard time trying to hide his own laughter.
"Juri..." He warned. He knew Juri's temperament and honesty was something to be feared.
"I know, I know, manners. But if I remember correctly, you also taught us to not lie."
"Yes I did sweety, but is not good to be rude either. If you have nothing good to say then just don't say anything at all."
Juri just rolled her eyes and went back to her delicious dinner. Yuki smiled at her sister's attitude and also went back to her food. Kaien was so going to miss them once they were no longer around. The house was just going to feel so empty and big without them. If it were up to him, he wouldn't sent them away. Last thing he wanted to do was let go of his daughters, who were pretty much babies on his eyes. Even when he wanted to be selfish, he knew his daughters weren't going to be 100% safe if they stayed around him. He knew he was making this sacrifice for their own safety.
Other than a few conversations here and there, dinner was pretty much uneventful. Once everyone was finished with their desserts, Juri and Yuki decided they were going to start ready for bed, since they had to be up pretty early tomorrow morning.
"Alright girls don't forget that..." Kaien was interrupted by Juri, who had stopped at the top of the stairs with Yuki next to her.
"We have to leave early, so we have to make sure we are ready by eight. We know dad."
"And also don't forget to..." He was interrupted once again, but this time by Yuki.
"To look as presentable as possible so we can make a good first impression. You've told us this like a hundred time already dad."
Kaien just smiled. "Alright girls, in that case, goodnight."
"Goodnight dad." Replied Juri and Yuki at the same time and the made their way to their rooms.
Yuki was just getting out of taking a hot, long and relaxing shower. She had just changed into her pajamas, brushed her hair and teeth, and was pretty much ready to go to bed. She wasn't a morning person and she could use all the sleep she could get tonight. When she get out of the bathroom, she found Juri sitting on her bed watching TV.
"Took you long enough to get out. I was starting to think you had drown or something." Yuki just ignored her sister and laid down on her bed.
"So, how do you feel about going to this school? I know that you, unlike me, didn't screamed when father first told you about it." Asked Juri, making Yuki sit up next to her.
"I don't know how to feel Juri. A part of me wants to feel very excited about going to the same school mom went to. I don't know, I feel like in a way it would help us somewhat know a little bit more about her. I'm also excited about making new friends and everything, but at the same time I feel very nervous." Yuki took a deep breath and let it out. It felt good to finally let out some of the thoughts she was having. "What about you? How do you feel?" She asked her sister.
"I guess you could say I feel the same way about you. I just don't want to be dealing with a bunch of spoiled idiots, that's all. Besides, I'm worried about dad. We have never been away from him, and I know once we are gone he's pretty much going to be alone. I don't know how he is going to cope with it." Yuki just nodded, understanding her sister's worries because she also had them.
"I'm pretty sure dad would be fine. Sure, the first couple days he's going to be more dramatic than ever, but I'm sure Yagari-san won't let him do anything stupid." Yuki comforted her sister with a smile.
"You are probably right. Well I'm off to bed. We need to be up early tomorrow. Goodnight Yuki." She gave her sister a kiss on her cheek and left to go to her own room.
"Goodnight Juri." Said Yuki before her sister left her room. Yuki imitate her sister and decided to go to bed and get some sleep. After all, tomorrow was going to be a long day. She's going to need all sleep she could get.
Next Morning
Juri was the first one to wake up. Unlike her sister, she was a morning person, and enjoyed being up early. She took a look at the clock on next to her on her night stand. It was barely six in the morning. Yuki was so going to have a fit about being woken up so early in the morning. Since Yuki was pretty fast at getting ready, she figured she could let her sister sleep in for a few more minutes. She took her stuff and headed towards the shower. She turned on the water and while she waited for it to get hot, she brushed her teeth and tie her hair into a high bun, to make sure it wouldn't get wet. Then she got in the shower. The hot water felt amazing against her skin. Showers and baths was some of the few things Juri enjoyed hot. For some unknown reason, Juri prefer the cold over the warm. Yuki on the other hand, prefer warm weather, and pretty much everything warm, over the coldness. Kind of ironic considering Yuki's name means snow.
After her relaxing shower, Juri turned of the water and got off the shower. She dried herself and then put a bathrobe on. After taking a look at the clock, she decided to go wake up her sister. To her surprise, she saw her father walking out of his sister's room. He was all dressed up in a pair of black dressy pants and a dark green button up shirt. His long dirty blonde hair was tied back, like it normally was.
"Did you manage to wake up Yuki?" She asked.
"More or less." Said Kaien with a laugh. "You know how your sister gets in the morning."
"You mean a living zombie right?" They both laughed at the question. Kaien came closer to his daughter and kissed her forehead.
"Go get ready, there are still a couple things I need to take care of before we leave. Breakfast will be served soon." And with that, he was off to his office. Juri just walked back into her room and started to get ready.
After she was finished getting ready, Juri took one last look in the mirror, just to make sure nothing was off. She was wearing a short, white pencil skirt with a light pink shirt. Her hair was falling freely down her back in perfect curls. She was wearing a pair of light pink pumps and white stockings. Over all, she looked decent enough to cause a good first impression, or so she thought. In her neck was resting a silver chain with a beautiful diamond in the shape of a heart that her father had gotten her for her birthday with a pair of matching earrings. She grabbed her purse, and then was off to breakfast. Before going downstairs, she knocked on Yuki's door. She wanted to make sure he sister had actually woken up.
"Nee Yuki, are you ready? I'm pretty sure breakfast is ready and we have to leave soon."
"I'll be down in just a minute. You go ahead, I'll meet you downstairs." Yuki yelled to make sure her sister heard her. Juri figure it would be the best to wait for her in the dining room and left.
By the time Juri arrived to the dining room, her father was already there. He was typing a few things in his computer while the maids were serving breakfast.
"Good morning." Juri greeted everyone. "Yuki said that she was going to be down in a minute." Juri explained before her father had a chance to ask the question.
Right at that moment, Yuki walked in. She was wearing a black dress with light blue polka dots and a light blue sash around her waist. She was also wearing a pair of white stockings and a pair of black heels. Like Juri, she wore the necklace her father had given her for her birthday. This time, the diamond was in the shape of a snowflake and its matching pair of earrings. Her hair was, like usually, down and straight, with a blue hair diadem with a bow on it. After a quick apology for being late, she took a seat. And so, they all started their breakfast.
"So how exactly are we gonna get to this school? Are you going to drive us there." Asked Juri, breaking the silence they had been trapped in every since breakfast started.
"No, that would just take too long. We are taking the train, is the fastest way. It should only take us about two hours to get there."
"Where exactly is this school located? You never really told us." Yuki questioned.
"The school is located in the countryside, away from most big cities. I know you girls are probably thinking that this going to be like the middle of nowhere, but I promise you guys will like it." Explained Kaien. Juri and Yuki exchanged looks. Not only were they going to be stuck with a bunch of rich kids in a school, but they would also be on the middle of nowhere. Something they were definitely not looking forward to. Besides, their father wasn't sounding too convincing.
After breakfast was done, they were pretty much ready to go. Juri grabbed her long, white coat, since it was unusually chilly for September morning. Yuki wore an identical coat, but instead of white, it was light blue. Outside the house, a fancy car was already waiting for them. Kaien opened the door for his daughters and after they got in, he went in. The trip to the train station was short and quiet. Mainly because Yuki was still half asleep and Juri didn't really know what to talk about. As soon as they arrived to the station they got on the train and left.
