Blush
She was doing it again. Again. And this time, she didn't hold it back... She was blushing.
Katara was never the one to blush. Blushing was a luxury Aang had possessed. Every contact of her lips to his cheek was returned with a dreamy smile from the airbender, followed by reddening cheeks in which he wasn't embarrassed to hide. But somehow, today was a surprise for Katara, regarding the only time she ever did blush was during the submarine kiss Aang had shared with her. Even now, she could feel his desperate lips upon her own, its pressure light and soft, but memorable and intense in its own way, but amazingly powerful among the ways of war.
Then again, there was that Ember Island kiss, bitter sweet but unique. It was a kiss that really questioned her heart. But was barely a lip lock, briefly encasing hers as she instantly pulled away. She had hoped to return it..to just stand before him and remain leaning into it. Much to her regret, her feelings were just...unstable... She wasn't necessarily sure if it was confusion or fear. Fear of losing him. She had pulled away. And now, she was the one who was blushing.
Today, it was her chance to return those feelings. No confusion, no hurt...just love...
Here she was, standing behind him and watching him beside the doorway. The balcony was just a few feet from her, her eyes lingering upon him. He was now a fully realized avatar-Avatar Aang. And for a moment, she felt apprehensive, hesitant...shy..to face him.
She had always known him as Aang, but today, he was beyond that. He had restored balance to the world, and her belief was confirmed. Now, he was simply watching the sunset, as if enjoying how the world was embraced in harmony after a century of war and seperation. She wasn't afraid anymore..she was simply proud of him, despite the apprehensive skipping of her heartbeat. This was her chance.
The waterbender slowly made her way towards him, who at once recognized her gentle footsteps. He smiled as he glanced at her. Katara couldn't hide her own smile as she joined him. And there it was again...that blush.
She remained silent as she embraced him. But the airbender knew that she didn't need words to express how she felt. He simply returned the hug, glancing lovingly and expectantly towards her and drowning among her silken hair. They parted, returning their gaze towards the beautiful sunset that lay before them. As if nature's most beautiful blessing, it dipped and dove in colors of pink and intensifying orange, followed with a golden glow. It enraptured them in a state of silent romance with its unspoken ways. The whole world was at peace again, and now, neither was hesitant to proceed turned her attention to Aang, who glanced back with passion gleaming in his sparkling grey eyes. They welcomed the moment, as if teasing her. And she couldn't take the heartbreak anymore.
She leaned forwards, capturing the Avatar's lips. No words, no gestures..only a kiss of a lifetime. Aang leaned forward, deepening the kiss as he wrapped his arms around her waist, just as he always dreamed of doing. She encased her arms around his neck, never letting go. And much to his joy, she revealed her masked feelings for him at last. They were finally together in eachother's arms.
Aang could feel himself smile as her nervousness vanished. He was Avatar Aang, but he was her Aang as well.
And there it was again...that same blush indicating a lifetime of love and happiness...
