Maybe One Day,

I'll Be What You Need

But Don't Wait Too Long...

Because The Day You

Want Me, May Be The,

Day I've Finally Given Up...

Love, that was one word Richard Castle could never fully understand. He couldn't understand it, because wasn't love supposed to be the single greatest thing to feel. Wasn't it supposed to bring everything into a whole new perspective, make all the love songs make sense. Wasn't it supposed to be the happiest feeling in your life. But, was it supposed to hurt this bad, before it even began.

Richard knew, Kate would never be his, no matter what he wished, no matter how he felt or what he wanted. He thought, she cared for him at least, he thought they were Partners, he thought they were friends. But, everything he thought, everything he believed was a lie. Everything came into a clear perspective, when he had heard her interrogating Robert Lopez, the key suspect in their investigation on the bomb that went off at Boyland Plaza, that had killed 5 people and injured 23. He had wanted to see what he was going to say, when Beckett had caught him in his lie, but Castle had caught Beckett in hers.

She had been playing him all along, pretending she didn't remember probably to save him from her untimely rejection. But, of course being the gentleman he is, he hadn't called her out on it. He finished the case with her, and was pleasantly surprised on who the bomber actually was. The bomber was Leanne West the way to ambitious reporter, with the help of her partner Jesse Friedman one of the victims.

Of course he had tried dropping hints while they were finishing up the case, but she had been oblivious. His mother had told him earlier that day, that love wasn't like a switch you couldn't turn it off even if you wanted to, and working with Beckett made it worse. He wanted to believe that working with her wouldn't be any different than it was before, but he knew it was, it would never be the same again. So he had to make one of the toughest decisions of his life, which brought him where he was now. Standing in front of a shocked Beckett, who had unshed tears in her eyes.

"What do you mean, you're leaving." She asked, for what seemed liked the millionth time. Like she couldn't wrap her mind around the simple fact that he wouldn't be there anymore.

"I'm leaving, Beckett I need to get some writing done, for the Nikki Heat series, Paula's been hounding me for the manuscript." He lied easily, enough but he could tell she didn't believe it. Castle knew if he didn't leave now he wouldn't. So he smiled at her the charming smile, everyone loved. "I'll try to be back as soon, as I can though." Another lie, he didn't know when he would be back but he knew it wouldn't be soon.

"But, Rick..." She trailed off as if unsure how to go on, Castle only smiled before walking towards the elevator, having already said goodbye to the boys. He turned around as the doors were closing and saw Beckett staring at him with so much sadness in her beautiful hazel eyes. And, he knew if the doors had closed any slower he would have stayed just to put a smile on her face. But, they didn't and Richard Castle closed his eyes, as sadness overtook him, knowing what he did was for the best, for both of them. But, that didn't mean it hurt any less.

A/N; This was a prologue really, seeing if you would actually want to read this. I hope you liked it.
