AN: Voldemort is finally defeated and everyone is having a celebration in the Great Hall. This is AU because Dumbledore, Remus, and Sirius are still alive

Albus Dumbledore stood from his seat at the raised table. "Let us all rejoice, for Lord Voldemort, the most evil Dark Lord in over three hundred years is finally dead!" Cheers rang out from the crowd. "We should all be grateful…"

However one face was not cheerful. Remus Lupin rose and silently ducked out of the Hall. Everyone was so wrapped up in the joyful party that they didn't notice him leave. Well, all but one person.

Sirius Black followed Remus out to the entrance hall, and watched him slip behind the great oak doors that lead out to the grounds. He found him leaning against the castle wall, looking to the sky, his face thoughtful.

"It something wrong?" Asked Sirius quietly.

Remus didn't jump, he likely heard him coming. "Not really it's just…"

Sirius stepped out from the doorway and leaned on the wall next to Remus.

"Well…" Remus continued, "everyone we know, all those who cried for those who died, and vowed to save as many lives as possible, are now celebrating someone's death,"

Sirius frowned slightly, "Voldemort,"

"I know he was evil, and there was nothing to do but kill him, or many more innocents would die, but still, it seems wrong, that normally, when someone dies, everyone cries, and prayers are said, and everyone wishes that they could still be alive. Yet here someone is dead, murdered no less, and we are all rejoicing, with no regard or reverence for the dead."

Sirius made another move, concern on his face.

"It just seems that something should be done. Not for Voldemort, who was evil and cruel and not even truly human, but for Tom Riddle. The boy who knew nothing but the orphanage he was born in. The boy who never knew his parents and was raised with little care and no love; he needed a way to deal with his life, and he found it in…punishing those who had wronged him. And slowly, it spiraled out of control. Soon he was doing more and more wicked things, becoming less and less human. He didn't start out killing Muggles and wizards and so many who didn't deserve to die. He started out Tom Riddle, and he slowly became Lord Voldemort. It just seems that something should be done for Tom Riddle. For the boy who could have been. If raised properly, he could have become a brilliant wizard. Perhaps finding a cure for a disease, or inventing something great. But long ago, Tom Riddle died, leaving his body to a thing known as Voldemort. No one is crying for Voldemort, but no one mourned Tom Riddle either. I'm not sure when Tom Riddle died, if it was when he killed his grandfather, or if it was long before that. If Tom was still in there, becoming disbelieving of what he was doing, fighting Voldemort out of sight of prying eyes, only to be forced out at the making of his first Horcrux. But whenever it was, no one cried; no one asked why it had to be Tom, the brightest student Hogwarts had seen in years; no one visits his grave. Instead, we all celebrate."

"Let us take a moment of silence for the Tom Riddle who might have been," said Sirius.

AN: This was inspired by the song from the musical Wicked, No One Mourns the Wicked. I'm not sure what the song was supposed to mean, but it made me think of how sad it is that when someone evil dies someone celebrates, and not one person cries. Thus this story. It really gets you thinking. Please review!
