This was a random idea that came to me while I was brainstorming for Avatar fic ideas. IMO this phails epicly but I'm uploading it because my friend KS says it's good. And he IS the expert, after all :P
This doesn't take place during a certain point in the HP timeline - it's just random. Also, there is a HUGE lack of British slang, so HP nerds, please don't kill me! D:
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter or its characters.
To Impress a Girl
It was a holiday. And Ron was bored. Incredibly bored.
He yawned and stretched his legs, rolling over to lie on his side. The grass was cool against his face and he was beginning to feel sleepy. However, before he could make himself comfortable, two pairs of feet fell into his line of vision. He looked up only to see his brothers grinning at him.
"Ugh, not you two again…" he mumbled, closing his eyes and hoping they would go again. He wasn't so lucky.
"Get up, you lazy bum!"
"Yeah, we want you to do something for us!"
"No." He replied and rolled over.
"Alright," said George," But you'll be missing out on some valuable information concerning a certain bookworm…"
At this, Ron's eyes shot open and he sat up abruptly.
"What about Hermione?" he asked.
"That's not important!" they chorused, and before he could object, they each grabbed one of his arms and pulled him up.
Fred pointed at him. "You." He then pointed at a nearby tree. "Tree."
Ron rubbed his eye lazily. "Yeah, I knew that already. Now what-"
George pushed him forward until he was standing a few feet away from the tree.
"Climb!" They said in unison.
"Wh-what? You want me to climb it?" They nodded their heads vigorously.
Ron looked at them as if they were crazy. "Don't be daft! Why would I want to climb a tree? Ugh, I'm going back to my patch of grass…" He made to turn around and walk away.
"Wait! We didn't tell you about Hermione yet!"
He stopped in his tracks. The twins smirked, pleased that they had his attention.
"We were walking past the girls' room and we overheard them talking-"
"-and Hermione mentioned that she loves men who climb trees."
Ron shook his head. "You honestly expect me to believe that?"
"Okay, don't try it then. It isn't like you want to impress her or anything…"
He stood in his place for a few moments before sighing in defeat.
"Fine. I'll climb the stupid tree," he muttered under his breath and turned around, walking over to it. He eyed the first branch, which was quite high up.
'This had better be worth it…'
-----
Half an hour later, Ginny and Hermione opened the door of the Weasley household, only to see Ron struggling to climb a large oak tree, Fred and George watching him, devilish smirks on their faces.
Ginny cleared her throat and they looked at her, only just noticing that they had arrived.
"Oh, I think I heard mum calling! See ya!" And with that, they ran indoors. The girls giggled before walking towards Ron.
"Ronald, what are you doing?" asked Hermione, laughter evident in her voice. He looked at her, blushing.
"I'm…uh…climbing this tree, of course!"
This time, she burst into laughter, tears running down her face.
"Yes, I can tell, but why?!"
He blushed deeper. "Fred and George said you liked men who climb trees! I wanted to see if I could do it, because…I'd get an idea of how many guys'd be able to do it too!"
"I can't believe you'd listen to Fred and George about...oh never mind, just get down from there! You look like a complete prat!" Both girls couldn't resist laughing again as they walked off.
Ron groaned. "Those idiots…and I actually believed them…"
With some effort, he managed to untangle himself from the branch he was clinging to and climbed down. He began the walk back to his house.
"Next time, I'll pretend to be asleep…"
