The wind whistled past my ears and whipped through my hair. My two older sisters, Jasmine and Chelsea, were almost silent shadows on either side of me. Their eyes glistened in the pale moonlight.
We were almost to the meeting place. There was a faint metallic tinge to the air around me. The other vampires had eaten recently. Of course they drank human blood, but they didn't get it directly from the source. We found it much easier to get blood from overstocked blood banks.

Jasmine's mouth opened slightly as she tasted the air. "It's not far now," her long, black pony-tailed hair sashayed in the wind.

Chelsea, all the while, said nothing. I didn't need to read her mind to figure out that she thought of this as a serious situation.

Ahead of us was the entrance to the meeting place. I ran a little faster and let the power flow through me. I always loved this part, it was always so exhilarating, so... awesome. Now, I being a vampire and all that jazz, am a born natural at this kind of yes, I said born. You know, not all vampires are sired. A lot of us are naturally conceived by momma and poppa.

My sisters moved in synchronization with me, moving together and closer to me. We'd had to hide our "clubhouse" when the hunters came to town. Hunters are the equivalent to bounty hunters with a soft side that didn't show it's face often. The formal vampire community call them by their full name,"Lupus Venators", meaning "Hunter Wolves", because of their tracking skills that are close to those of a wolf. Now, the people in the "in crowd" just call them hunters. Short, simple, and to the point.

We walked through the open passageway to the clearing where seven pairs of glowing eyes flitted around anxiously awaiting the news. From where the three of us stood, I could easily make out who was standing next to who; Ryan next to Stacey (the only angel in our group), kyle had walked over to stand by Chelsea. Tyler was sitting on a large flat rock with Jaden tucked under his arm. And Daren, my older brother, was leaning on the wall farthest from me. He was glaring at me, his lean arms folded across his chest.

"You're only fourteen!" he spat. "You're only just throwing yourself into the fire!" I didn't want to read his mind, it would probably be filled to the brim with insults directed at me.

I stood my ground. "I don't see why not. And since when had there been a law for who you're allowed to love?"

Ryan sighed beside me. "He's not one of us, Jean."

"And Stacey isn't either!" I saw her wince a little at the pain that caused her. "But we love her anyway!"

Jasmine broke in. "But he's been taught from birth that vampires are nothing but evil! He'll kill you the first chance he gets!"

"We've all agreed on this, Jean," Kyle said, "Just because you're the leader, doesn't mean you can ignore everything in the world. He will kill you."

"Eric's not like that," I protested, "He would never hurt me. He loves me too, and he has no idea what I am!"

"It can't be allowed," Daren said darkly. "I'm sorry, Jean, it just... can't."

"I don't care! I'll love him anyway, secrets and all!" I ran back out the entrance and headed home. I knew the first thing I would do tomorrow: call Eric and tell him that I would like to go to Taco Bell on Saturday.

There was nothing I could say to deny it anymore. I was in love with Eric, I was in love with a hunter...
