I started laughing. Again. I missed this, when it was just me and him. He was always so busy. And JET WAS NOT HELPING WITH THAT!
"Hey, Longshot!" someone yelled.
Case and point.
We looked up. Jet was standing on a branch oh… ten feet above us.
"I need you for a sec!"
I facepalmed.
Longshot looked at me apologetically, got up, and started walking off. Just before he grabbed a rope, he turned and smiled at me.
My heart skipped a beat.
He was pulled up.
"Gah!" I turned around and hit my forehead against a tree. All those other things that had gone wrong in my life because of one little misjudgment…
I groaned.
"If there's a prize for rotten judgment," I muttered.
Well, I guess I've already won that"
And then there was Jet. All that trouble, back when I was younger, trying to get him to notice me, and he fell for that MORON of a waterbender.
"No man is worth the aggravation
That's ancient history
Been there, done that!"
"Who you think you're kidding?" a voice sang behind me.
I whipped around. Honey was leaning against a tree, arms folded across her chest, looking smug.
"He's the earth and heaven to you," she sang.
Granyt walked out from behind the tree next to her.
"Try and keep it hidden," she sang.
"Honey, we can see right though you"
"Oh, no," I said, on the verge of screaming it.
"Girl, you can't conceal it"
I spun around. Cinnamon was leaning against another tree. Her sister must've dragged her into this. Jewels was leaning against the one next to her.
"We know how you feel," the older girl sang.
A "What the–" managed to escape my lips before, all together, they sang
"And who you're thinking of"
"Ohh, no," I said.
"No chance!
"No way!
"I won't say it, no, no"
The girls quick that ridiculous backup and sang,
"You swoon, you sigh"
Honey took the next line.
"Why deny it, oh-oh?"
They knew perfectly well why!
"It's too cliché," I bit back. I turned, folded my arms across my chest, and started walking.
"I won't say I'm in love," I sang knowing they were following.
I sighed. "I thought my heart had learned it's lesson
It feels so good when you start out" My voice rose.
"My head is screaming GET A GRIP, GIRL!
Unless you're dying to cry your heart out!"
My "Muses" chimed in.
"You keep on denying
Who you are and how you're feeling
Baby, we ain't buying
Hon, we saw you hit the ceiling
Face it like a grownup"
Hello, I'm fourteen! I wanted to yell at them.
"When you gonna own up
That you got, got, got it bad?"
"Oh, oh," I sang.
No chance, no way
I won't say it, no, no"
"Give up, give in," the four sang.
Granyt took it, grinning.
"Check the grin, you're in love"
I shoved my fingers in my ears.
"This scene won't play!" I nearly screamed.
"I won't say I'm in love!"
"You're doing flips," they persisted.
"Read our lips, you're in love!"
I yanked my fingers out of my ears and turned on them.
"You're way off base, I won't say it!" Now I was screaming.
"She won't say it, oh" they echoed, smiling.
I took a step towards them. Any sane person would've run by now.
"Get off my case, I won't say it!"
Jewels took a step towards me, eyes soft, arms open a bit.
"Girl, don't be proud," she sang. Oh, how could I argue with this teddy bear?
"It's okay you're in love," the other three joined in, lowering the intensity and losing the idiotic smiles.
I sighed. Sneers would have a field day if he found out, but it wasn't doing me any good keeping it from myself.
"Oh, oh," I sang, softer. I lowered my eyes and dug the toe of my boot into the dirt.
"At least out loud…" I sat down on the hard earth and leaned against a tree, running a hand through my hair.
"I won't say I'm in love"
I closed my eyes and relaxed. At least I'd gotten that off my chest.
"Sha la la la la la…"
They sighed.
