A/N: This was first published on a now-defunct website called "Fanon Histories. " It's only been recently that I've dug it up again. Note that it may still be subject to further revision.

This pretty much sprung out of my frustration that one of my two favorite races in WoW has been somewhat shorted in the department of lore and metaplot involvement. And so, I decided to do a bit of writing in between the gaps. Hope you enjoy.

In the interests of facilitating Alliance inter-cultural relations, I have recently made a point of interviewing as many of our large blue friends as will answer my questions. Here, for the edification of anyone who might be curious, is the information that I have gathered.

The Physical
First, the tendrils. One subject informs me that they're one of the first things that a sibling will go after in a scuffle. Another states that the males of the race (as many of us had already theorized) are not blessed with the same uniformity in that regard as their kinswomen: Number and pattern among males seems to be inherited; some lack them altogether. However, it appears that draenei get evasive about volunteering any information beyond this.

Close scrutiny reveals that their eyes possess a pupil and iris behind a sort of reflective outer lens. (I would like to take a moment, once again, to thank the gentleman who permitted me to get up in his face like that.)

A certain huntress deigned to demonstrate how she could move the two "toes" of her hooves separately. Although she admits to having had more use than most for this ability—and therefore, more flexibility than the average—she assures me that it's true, to at least a limited degree, of all draenei.

Interestingly enough, another (tangentially related) theory of mine was confirmed shortly afterwards: Much as the draenei have perfectly ordinary-looking hands—albeit with blunt claws for fingernails—but hooves for feet, much of the native fauna of Argus had similarly disparate fore and hind limbs. (Once again: I apologize to said interviewee if any uncomfortable memories were dredged up!)

The Social
Azeroth's Church of the Holy Light has had many a debate in regards to vows of chastity among the clergy. However, the idea seems to have simply never occurred to the draenei: The most common response seems to be "what purpose would actually be served by not allowing anchorites to marry?" Voluntary celibacy, however, is not unknown.

Another controversy that has apparently never occurred to the draenei is the possibility of any inherent contradiction between faith in the Light and the practice of the arcane. From what I can tell, this is because they have never stopped studying the arcane to at least some degree, but have also conscientiously avoided delving into any of its more ethically questionable aspects.

Draenei seem to approach gemology in much the same way humans approach flower arrangement: Each type of stone symbolizes a different virtue, is ascribed a particular significance, or—most commonly—something of both. The gift of a string of spessarite prayer beads, for example, shows that the giver admires the strength of the recipient's faith. However, it is also a talisman of sorts against any lapse thereof.
