Cousins

Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who, just borrowing it for a bit.

Rose, Ten and Jack, so it's a bit AU.

The first indication the anything was wrong was that the lights on the TARDIS didn't seem as bright. Then the Doctor noticed that TARDIS was a bit sluggish at the control. Still no one worried overmuch, TARDIS did have a mind of her own after all. Then TARDIS decided to make her own trip. That's when the trio figured out that something was definitely wrong.
Catrin (Cat) Foster had taken her work home with her today. On the worktable in front of her was a client's computer, in pieces. She hadn't really needed to take apart the computer to fix it, but when it came into the computer repair shop, the tower was rather dusty, and she thought 'dirty outside the box, dirty in.' She turned in the stool to grab a can of compressed air and as an afterthought flipped on the cd player.

After cleaning and putting the computer back together, Cat plugged it in and booted it up. She already knew what the problem was, an uncomplicated fix that any of the techs at the repair shop could have figured out, eventually. But everyone at work thought of her as the systems goddess, she could smell an error and find it before her co-workers could decipher a client's babble. So, most of the staff deferred system problems to Cat. After the computer finished booting, she went directly to the error and looked it over.

"Might help, might not" she spoke to herself. With this said, she pulled out a memory card and copied the error on to the card. She cleared out the command that caused the error and wrote in the proper command, then ran the program to make sure it worked. She powered down the computer and reached over to grab a pad of post-it notes. Writing a short note on the top sheet; tower cleaned, program fixed, she attached it to the computer.

Cat hopped off the stool and took the memory card to a mainframe standing out of the way in a corner and popped the card into a slot. As she was standing, waiting for the information to transfer, she heard something, faintly. She hit the pause button on the cd player, and realized that although the sound had gotten louder, it wasn't really a sound to be "heard" with her ears, but that it was sound from her mind.

In an instant the sound came clear in her head, a scream. "HELLLP!" Another instant later a wind came up, contrary to the fact that Cat was in a basement. In the third instant a blue light flickered into existence.

"What was that then?" Rose asked as she picked herself off the floor of the control room.

"Not sure yet" replied the Doctor.

Jack came running into the control room. "Rough landing. What happened?"

Rose answered, as the Doctor didn't seem to hear the question. "Not sure"

The Doctor muttered as he touched the control board, trying to find any information on what had happened. "Controls are a bit warm"

"Where and when are we Doctor?" asked Rose.

"Earth. 2006."

"Oh, I could go visit my mum then."

"America." continued the Doctor.

"America?" piped in Jack. "2006. Well, can't visit my mom then. She hasn't been born yet."

Rose asked, "What are we doing here and now?"

With a painful expression on his face the Doctor admitted "I don't know"

Just then there was a knock on the outside door. The three inside the TARDIS looked at each other before the Doctor strode over to the door and opened it part way. Jack and Rose stepped behind the Doctor, trying to see who had knocked.

The Doctor alone saw the young woman standing outside the TARDIS's police box façade. "Can I help you?"

The young woman smiled and replied "I think that's my line Cousin."
