She had her eyes. She may have his hair, but she had her eyes. Those mesmerizing, brilliant, green eyes. He hated her instantly. How dare she? How dare she come back with her mother's eyes and haunt him like this? Those eyes he had seen in the lifeless body of the love of his life, the eyes that had stared blankly as he wept over her unmoving corps.
She at least had the decency to go to Gryffindor- that he could almost blame on him. But it was also partly her fault. He had been the Gryffindor golden boy, but her? She was subtly brave, with quiet victories. She was brave, right down to the moment she threw herself in front of the killing curse to save...this. This combination of his love and his childhood nemesis was what she had given her life for.
As Severus Snape lay dying, he thought of Harriet Potter. The girl (who had grown into a woman almost as beautiful as her mother) sat beside him, tears streaming down her face as she tried to stop the bleeding. He did not have the heart to tell her that within moments his heart would succumb to the deadly poison now coursing through his veins.
With his remaining strength, he extracted his memories. He may not have liked him, but he loved her. He would die for her, but she had died for Harriet and here he was doing the same thing. Or maybe he was dying for her, and the memory of her. Either way, he wanted Harriet to know the truth, the truth about all of them. And as Harriet fixed her emerald eyes on his, he saw her- he saw the woman he had fallen in love with. He saw Lily. As his heart beat for the final time, he gazed deep into her eyes...their eyes...and his final heartbeat was one of the first without Lily that wasn't a heartbreak.
