Both Hermione and Draco had become professors at Hogwarts the same year. They were both surprised to see the other, for they hadn't seen each other in years. Neither thought anything would happen between them, considering their history…
Hermione gathered up her supplies for her first day as Transfiguration professor. She was supposed to go to the Great Hall for a welcome breakfast for herself and the new potions professor, whoever it was.
She walked into the large school dining area, ready to greet the new potions professor. The sight that greeted her surprised her. Draco Malfoy stood in the center of a group of teachers all shaking hands with him. He looked up and spotted her. He smiled and made his way over to her. "I had been told you were teaching here now." He said kindly. Hermione nodded. "Yes. And what might you teach?" She asked. "Potions." He replied without pause. Hermione nodded again. It was odd having such a casual conversation with Malfoy after all those years of torment during school. "Hermione." Draco spoke suddenly. Hermione was startled out of her thoughts. "Yes?" She asked. "I was horrible to you in school, but I hope that as colleagues you can give me a second chance and we can be friends." He said lightly. Hermione was shocked. He wanted to be friends. "Sure…" Hermione said. Draco smiled, an honest to Merlin smile, and took Hermione's hand. Hermione felt her cheeks start to warm up, but he just shook it. "You won't be sorry. I've become a better person." He walked back to his spot at the table.
After the breakfast, Hermione made her way back to her classroom. Draco was waiting for her. "May I help you Professor Malfoy?" She asked. She liked the way that sounded. Professor Malfoy. She mentally slapped herself back to reality. Draco shrugged. "Just thought I'd stop by." He took a step closer to her. Hermione took a step back. "I see…" She said. Draco took another step closer. Hermione took another step back, but walked herself up against a wall. Draco stepped closer again, just a foot away now. He put his palm against the wall beside her head and leaned on it, making his face get inches closer to hers. Hermione had a sharp intake of breath. Draco looked at her with his silver-grey eyes. Hermione had never seen them so close. They were quite pretty. And his hair. It looked so soft. Hermione found herself unconsciously reaching up a hand to run her fingers through it. She ran them through several times. Draco was quite a handsome man, if you thought about it. Draco gave a small half smile. He leaned closer to her. Hermione did the same. Their faces were now just two inches apart. Hermione knew what they were both going to do. She pulled her face away. "But, our history…" She turned her face. Draco took her chin in his hand and made her look at him. "The past is behind us." He said and pulled her face to his, kissing her.
