Three brief glimpses at Tonks and Lupin's relationship.
He found her lying on top of the covers of Sirius bed.
Her hair was long and black and spread out on the pillow around her. The tangled black mass reminded him of someone, but he pushed the feeling away.
Grief was too sharp and painful.
And he hadn't been able to stomach his breakfast that morning.
Her eyes were dark and lacked their usual twinkle. Mascara tears ran down her face, staining her cheeks but she made no effort to wipe them away; she didn't even look up when he entered the room. She just lay there.
He slowly made his way toward the bed, the floorboards creaking disobediently.
They should be silent. The world should be silent; it should stop revolving.
Life shouldn't just go on as normal.
As if he hadn't died…Wordlessly he climbed into the bed next to her, lying on his back, gazing at the ceiling.
But he didn't touch her.
"I… I miss him so much" She whispered after a few more moments of silence, her voice was hoarse from crying.
She made a noise as if trying to hold back a sob
Silently new tears began falling down her pale cheeks.
"I miss him too" He replied, his own voice cracking slightly as he begged tears not to fall.
He heard her struggle to hold in another sob.
"Nymphadora…"
She fell silent and turned her head to look at him, her eyes were filled with pain and she didn't even reprimand him for using her first name.
He reached out and put his hand on hers.
She wrapped her fingers into his and closed her eyes.
"Please don't leave me," She said her voice laced with a new emotion, one he was sure he recognised as fear.
"I wont," he whispered.
He wished he didn't have to feel anymore.
All these emotions were too much; and the way her hand fit perfectly into his made the guilt rise in his throat…
"I promise"
"Why did you do this to me?" she shouted, "Why did you let me fall in love with you?"
She wasn't crying this time. Her eyes were filled with what could only be described as anger.
"Why would you do that if you never loved me?"
He stood and watched as she flicked her now mousy brown hair out of her face and grabbed the front of his robes.
"And don't you dare say you never loved me!"
Her face was inches from his and there was something almost manic about the look in her eyes.
He could feel her hot rapid breathing on his neck and it gave him Goosebumps.
"I do love you." He answered.
"Then tell me why… Why would you let me do this to myself? Fall head over heals when you had no intention of us ever being together?" He eyes franticly searched his.
"It's more complicated than that and you know it" He answered sadly, looking away.
"No its not." She said, hurt apparent in her voice.
"Your just a total git"
And he barely had time to register her words before he realised she was gone.
"Tonks please… Tonks…slow down… I… I need to talk to you…I… Nymphadora!"
She stopped on her way out of the castle and span around to face her pursuer.
Dumbledore had just died; surely he could see it now? How important it was to live.
He was silent. She sighed.
"…Don't call me Nympha-"
But a pair of lips crashing against her's stole her own name.
She was too stunned to react as she found herself stumbling backwards and being pushed unceremoniously against the nearest wall.
He wanted to make it all better, to fix her.
And when they parted his breath caught in his throat; Her eyes were once again searching his, as if she dare not believe it was true.
"You're… I mean… you're… sure you want this?" She asked, almost pleading.
She was hurting because of him, and all he had to do was let himself love her.
"Nymphado-"
But this time it was her lips that stole his words.
Gentler, her kiss was soft and sweet; her tone of voice was firm.
"Don't call me Nymphadora"
