Stood Up For Harry Potter

Danny laughed in disbelief as he looked over his bottle of beer at the detective sat opposite him.

"Man you got stood up for Harry Potter? That's gotta burn."

Suddenly, flush with smugness of the impending information that had just come back to him. Earlier it had seemed trivial and he'd barely paid attention, but now it was something he could hold over his friend.

Flack took a deliberately slow sip of his beer, enjoying the confusion across the CSI's face. Danny had expected a witty retort from the detective for which he was renowned.

"Well I just happen to know a thing or two Messer," He pointed at him with one of the fingers that wasn't holding his still icy beer bottle, "Just like where your girl is tonight."

Hawkes watched the pair intently, glad to have not passed up the opportunity but at the same time disappointed he'd not been able to take up his second invitation of the night. He sat back in his seat and sipped at his own drink.

Danny looked at Flack blankly, "Something to do with work, she's in the office."

Flack leaned back in his chair, again delaying the release of information in order to silently torment his friend. His friend, who he could see slowly getting more wound up in his seat across from him in the booth they were sharing.

"Is that what she told you or what you think she's doing."

Danny shrugged as he tried to brush him off; trying to piece together the little information his girlfriend had given him earlier that day, and quickly realised Natalie hadn't even mentioned where it was she was going to be that evening.

All he'd heard from her was a straightforward text message apologising, that she wouldn't be able to make it for his proposed plans for spending that Friday evening together with little explanation as to why.

The grin spreading across his friends face only confirmed he knew more than what he did.

"She's busy." Was Danny's ignorant response to Flack's bait, but Flack wasn't undeterred as he grinned knowingly.

"Yeah, along with my girlfriend, Gwen, and Adam. And where our Doc Shelton here would be too if we hadn't cornered him first."

"Aww, man! Don't tell me you like that shit too Hawkes?"

Hawkes who'd been silent throughout held his hands up in defence, "Don't drag me into this. You two are the one's who've been stood up, not me."

"Aw man, I'm just as pathetic as you." Danny sulked back at Flack.

Flack sat up and clinked the neck of his beer bottle against Danny's, "It's got to be a sorry state of affairs when a man's girlfriend would rather spend her Friday night watching Harry Potter downtown than spend it with him."

"You're telling me." Danny grumbled as he downed his remaining beer.

"Next round is on me." Flack said as he pulled his wallet from his back pocket, opening the leather compartment to pull out several notes before heading to the bar for the next order of drinks.

If they were going to be stood up for Harry Potter, then they were going to damn well take advantage of it.
