Regret, Love, Lies

He was on top of me, our eyes locked together with bubbles all around us.

"You're always right." He said in that voice I loved so much.

"No, that's not true. I tried really hard to stay alive no matter how clumsy I was. That's all."

"Erza…"

"I don't think we can see each from now on…" My voice was nothing but a feint whisper. I struggled to keep my emotions inside. His eyes soften. No…No don't look at me…I don't want to you to see me cry….

It was no use. Tears spilled down from my eyes and I was trembling. Was it fear? Was it same? No…it was regret.

"Jellal…"

His breath was warm. Jellal was so close yet so far. Images of our time together flashed though my mind. When I first met him as a child, when I saw him go mad on that same day I lost my eye, when I saw him again older and more handsome, but how his mind was already broken. How I saw him wiser than before, and his memory of me that tore me to pieces.

His lips drew to mine, closer by every second. If he showed any emotions he didn't display it now. Then he brushed his against mine finally breaking free of our torture. Only for a second.

Jellal pushed me away. I looked at him in surprise. He avoided my gaze. "I can't…I have a fiancée."

What? Shock overcomes me. Realization hits me like a bullet.

"Ah, no… I err…I didn't mean to..." I said blood flowing to my cheeks.

"No…I just…err…Sorry…"

"Oh, I see! So then, congrats! I…had no idea… Yeah, right...it has been 7 years…." I looked down to sand then at him seeing a blush on his face. I smiled then spoke up trying to break the ice "She must be important to you right?"

"Ah…Yeah."

"So she's your reason for living."

He nodded slowly. "I think so…"

On the way back the silence was unbearable. The only we could hear was the sound of the waves going back and forth and the groaning of my guild members.

"No one can move now, thanks to you." I told Ultear.

"How come you don't feel anything?" she questioned. After Meredy told me the details on how to contact her, they walked away not before saying their goodbyes.

"Say hi to everyone for me. Take care of Gray, please." Said Ultear in kind voice as Meredy said her's cheerful, not letting any ruin her fun and lastly, Jellal. "See you…Hope to see you again, Erza."

I smirked. Yeah you too, Jellal I thought sliently as Jellal turned halfway flashing me a quick secretive smile. I sighed before heading back to everyone.

"So, Jellal." Started Meredy as she chewed on her spoon. "Why did you lie and tell her that you had a fianee?"

"You heard that?" He shouted getting up before sitting back down.

"Isn't it better to be honest with yourself? Or did you decide to continue punishing yourself?"

"'Punishment' is the rule for Crime Sorciere Isn't it? We all know that I can't fall in love with people who walk in the light. I can only hope that Erza can be happy forever."

"Even so, why didn't you come up with a better lie?" questioned Meredy

"It's really bad. You think that's cool?"

"Erk!"

"Also Jellal…..Look at your wrist." Meredy said as Jellal took a look at the Sensory Link on his wrist and his face darkened.

"Meredy….."

Fiancee. I thought before laughing softly. You're such a clumsy liar. Just like in the past. However when I look back at today one day. It's not that bad our answer to each other. I hope I'll keep on smiling like this for you.

"Hey! Erza!" called out Happy with a stick drawing in the sand.

"Huh?" I looked at the ground at a broken heart and kicked Happy to the sky.

Yes….This is our answer…

"She just wanted to show you her feelings and wanted to know yours!" cried out Meredy in a kneeling position. Jellal turned away smiling.

"We both know our feelings for each other."

We love each other, no matter how tainted they are.
