I do not own Legend of Korra or its characters. They belong to Michael DiMartino and Brian Koneitzko.
I am a dreaming bird, with bones and worries as light as air.
She tears away from her mother's grasp and runs in the opposite direction, following the magnificent creature with bright red wings and glowing yellow eyes. She ends up in the park, under the tree next to the turtleduck pond, looking up at the winged animal and its babies.
"Asami! Asami!" she hears her mother scream.
She turns and sees the relieved face of her mother running toward her. Her face erupts into a wide grin.
"Mommy! Mommy look! I found her -"
The older woman stops her speech by engulfing her into a desperate hug.
"Oh thank goodness. Sweetie, what were you thinking?! You had me so worried! I thought I lost you back at the market."
Her eyes widen in surprise, then they look down at her little shoes.
"I-I'm sorry Mommy. I just w-wanted to see her again..."
The woman pulls back to look at her daughter and her worried face melts into something more understanding and warm. She saw how much her daughter liked the flying creature. She tenderly cups the little girl's face.
"Oh my darling girl. I'm not mad. Mommy was just worried her little bird wouldn't come back to her."
The girl looks up with her jade eyes shining and small mouth in a grin.
"I'm your little bird?"
Her mother chuckles and kisses the girl's forehead.
"Yes, you're my little bird. You fly and dream in the clouds and you can't be caged. But sometimes you need to tell Mommy where you're going before you fly away so that Mommy can catch up. Can you do that for me?"
The little girl nods and with that, they wave goodbye to the birds in the tree and head back home.
"Wait. If I'm a bird, then you're a bird too! And Daddy is too!"
Her mother laughs. "Yes, Daddy and I are birds too."
