A short little thing I wanted to write... because I did... no real reason.

"I see that you have memorizes the spells from this book of magic." Ashura ran a hand along the page of the book, running his eyes across the page though not really taking in anything it said.

There was a pause. "Yes." Fai finally said his voice was hesitant.

"In fact," Ashura looked up at the rows of bookshelves surrounding them. "You have mastered the skills found in nearly all of the castle's books of magic."

There was no response. Ashura glanced down at the young boy.

Fai clutched a book to his chest; his head bent down the frown that always seemed to be on his face was deeper. Was he troubled by something?

"What is the matter Fai?" Ashura asked. "Is there something weighing upon your soul, I would like you to tell me what it is."

Fai hesitated for a moment then tightened his grip around the book. "No matter how hard I try, I can't manage to master healing and revivification magic. All I seem to be able to memorize is attack magic…" He got a sad look in his blue eyes. "Only things that will hurt other people."

Ashura watched Fai for a moment, amazed at how much this was bothering the boy.

"Try smiling."

Fai jerked his head up staring up at Ashura with a shocked expression as if trying to figure out if Ashura was joking. Ashura gave him a small smile.

"Eh?"

"Smile." Ashura commanded.

Fai looked back down at the ground, hesitating. Ashura was about to give the command again when Fai tilted his head back up, a brilliant smile stretching across his face.

Ashura took in a breath at Fai's sudden radiance. His smile…

"Your magic was successful." Ashura said in a low voice.

Fai's smile faded as quickly as it came, confusion sweeping over his features. "Eh?"

"Your smile Fai," Ashura began dipping his head and closing his eyes. "Has done much to heal my heart." He had to change it…"That is a kind of magic as well."

Fai's cheeks turned red as he dipped his head back toward the ground.

Ashura gave Fai a soft smile reaching out and gently placing his hand on the boys head.

"Th…thank….you…" Fai murmured.

Ashura remained quite, his smile fading. How much longer, until this boy's life was shattered? How much longer until he could no longer keep the secret? Until he had to have Fai…

"You…" Fai's soft voice interrupted Ashura's wandering thoughts. "You don't think… it makes me look… insane?"

Ashura withdrew his hand from Fai's head. "Insane?"

"It's not weird… is it?" Fai whispered. "To smile… like that?"
Ashura smirked. "Everyone is insane you know." Ashura's smile grows larger, spreading across his face. Fai looks up at him wide eyed. "Everyone is tainted, evil at heart, insane at heart."

Fai just stared at him. Ashura stood smiling at Fai for a few moments as he slowly realized just what he said to Fai. He chuckled turning slightly away from Fai, trying to hide from the boy's steady stare.

"No, it doesn't make you look insane Fai. It makes you look… happy."

"Happy…" Fai repeated. "I see…"

"Well," Ashura walked forward clamping his hand on Fai's shoulder. "I just came here to check on you. I have other duties to attend to, I will be leaving now."

"All right."

Ashura walked past Fai his hand slipping from his shoulder.

Everyone was insane…

Ashura took a deep breath, had he scared Fai? Had he exposed anything?

Ashura paused, glancing back at Fai, he still stood where Ashura had left him, clutching the book and standing in the middle of the castle library.

Ashura's eyes softened.

"Sorry Fai…" He whispered.
