A/N: okay probably shouldn't write this with another fic started but I couldn't resist! Because I watched an interview in history class of George W. Bush's day during 9-11. And I saw in this interview a brief flash of a short guy wearing dress clothes and a tie. Then this story came about. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: still don't own Hawaii Five-0.
The team sat at HQ. It was a boring day so far. Maybe the criminals had decided not to work on 9-11. Who knew?
"Where we're you during 9-11, Danny?" Steve broke the silence. A few more seconds of silence followed before Danny answered.
"I had just got to work when the first tower was hit. Our whole department immediately responded. We all left and went to the scene as quickly as possible. We got to the scene just in time to see a horrific view. I was looking right at the buildings when the second tower was hit. I was worried. There wasn't much I could do. The cops were all trying to here people out of the way. I got a glimpse of my dad. He and the rest of the fire department were working alongside others trying to stop fires from falling debris. Finally I got the call I had been waiting for and hoping wouldn't happen. Hoping he hadn't been at work. My best friend worked at the World Trade Centers. He was in the first building. We had been friends since kindergarten. As close as two kids could be. He told me that they were told the building would collapse soon and there was nothing he could do. We said our good byes. Seconds after we hung up the North tower collapsed. So much death and destruction. I was there when President Bush came and spoke. He was trying to be brave. For the country. It was uplifting. He was going to get the man responsible for the death of my best friend. And eventually they did. But that day was a terrible day for me. And I'll have the memory of the last words Josh spoke to anybody etched in my brain for the rest of my life," when he finished tears were slowly making their way down Danny's face.
"I was on tour. We were in Iraq when it happened. Everybody went on high alert. We were all prepared in case of an attack on us. Nothing ever happened. Although one man did kill himself that night. Because his wife was in one of those towers when it collapsed. The poor man couldn't deal with it. He killed himself. It was a terrible sight to see that even though it was across the world it still affected people," Steve told them.
"I was asleep. I was 18 years old at the time. It was only 3:30 in the morning here. I got up that morning and went to the beach for my usual surf but the Coast Guard wasn't letting people on the water. They feared that they might make an attack on us. Because its been done before by Japan so it could be done again. Beaches didn't reopen for five days. Even then the Navy was heavily guarding the water and the air. I didn't personally see an effects of it. I saw it on TV and on the radio and the Internet. But it just wasn't the same," Kono told them her story.
"My story is pretty much the same as Kono's. I woke up that morning and turned on the news to find that the towers had been attacked. It was terrible. It hit the station pretty hard. We all yearned to be there to help. But we all had to stay here. Our country was hit hard. And our department definitely felt the hit even thousands of miles away," Chin said.
Each part of Five-0 had been thousands of miles away from each other, with the exception of Chin and Kono. However all of them knew that it had been bad. And all of them would never forget the time. But now because of it the US had become a very united nation.
A/N: sad I know. But I'm telling you, the idea just wouldn't go away! Let me know what you think!
