Gotta Get Her Back
Chapter 1: The Breakup
(Dean and Rory are sitting in the gazebo talking.)
"Rory, I need to talk to you about something."
"OK, Dean. What is it?"
"Well, lately our relationship had been getting a little on the boring side. Like, it's become a habit, a routine. Have you noticed that?"
"Actually, it has been a little predictable the last couple of weeks. But, we could work on it, since we both see the problem, right?"
"Ummm… Rory, well, ummm, I think maybe we should see other people for a while. Just until we see what a non-predictable relationship should be like."
"WHAT?!?! You're breaking up with me?!?! Why? Our relationship may be a little, boring, as you say, but that doesn't mean we should just stop having one! I love you, Dean. I love you with all my heart!"
"Don't make this any harder for me. Please."
"It should be hard for you! This is crazy! You know you love me and we just need to work on being more spontaneous! I can do it! I can do spur-of-the- moment stuff!"
"Rory, it's over. At least, for now, anyways."
(Dean stands and walks away, leaving Rory alone and too shocked to cry.)
"I don't understand. I thought our relationship was still strong. Maybe… Maybe we just need to talk it out after we've both had time to think. Then he'll see how big his mistake was. Oh, I miss him already!"
(Rory stands and leaves the gazebo to make the walk back to her house so she can tell Lorelai what has happened.
