There he was, standing right in front of him, Castiel. Dean hadn't seen him in months, but the moment he saw his friend's face, he recognised every last detail: his dark hair blowing in the breeze, and his piercing blue eyes which seemed to look right into his soul.

Dean could feel his heart start to pound. He began walking up to Cas, slowly, savouring the moment he had been waiting for, for so long. He stood in front of the angel; the corners of his lips stared twitching, eventually forming a smile. Cas smiled back and Dean felt tears start to well up in his eyes.

Dean knew that Cas could be quite timid and so took lead and wrapped his arms around the man in the trench coat, pulling him into a tight embrace.

Castiel tensed for a moment, unsure how to react, but quickly realised what he wanted, and allowed his body to fall into Dean's, burying face into his shoulder and deeply breathing in the smell of alcohol and cheap motels that felt so familiar. He gently pulled away from the hunter; gazing for a moment before uttering the words he hadn't said in so long, that he doubted he'd be saying them again, "Hello, Dean".

Dean's smile grew even wider, "Hey, Cas", he returned the greeting, then a moment of silence. "Where the hell have you been these past months?" A puzzled look came across his face.

Castiel suddenly felt a pang of guilt, he had no idea dean had been missing him. "I am sorry, Dean. I was needed in heaven." He replied, keeping eye contact the entire time.

"I called you." Dean seemed hurt, tears still glistening in his eyes, gradually starting to spill down his cheeks, "why didn't you answer?" He was pleading now.

"I was busy." Cas didn't know what else to say, he still had difficulty understanding what to say I social situations, but he realised now that he had let dean down somehow.

"All you had to do was come down and say, "Hey Dean, I'm still alive." I was worried about you, we both were, me and Sam. We thought you were dead." Dean felt disappointed in his friend, yet all he wanted to do right now was take Cas in his arms and make up for lost time.

Castiel sighed. "Dean. I did not mean to upset you. I didn't realise I had been away for such a long time. I should have come sooner. All I can do now is apologise." Cas's eyes were now staring at the floor, he was ashamed of himself. He tried to think of how long he'd been gone, and suddenly realised that, for the past few months, he had done hardly anything, but think of Dean.

"It's okay , Cas, really. I know you got a lot going on. I just want you to know that I'm always here. I just wish you'd come back a little more often." Dean tugged playfully at the sleeve of the angel's oversized coat and they both grinned.

"I promise to try my best." Cas quietly laughed to himself at the sudden thoughts rushing through his head.

Dean got the impression of what Cas was thinking about from the expression that had formed across his face. "Hey." He gently fingered Cas's hand, "Why don't we go back to the motel? Sam's working a case, and he won't be back for a few hours. What d'ya say?"

"Um, alright then." Cas looked nervous as Dean led him over to the Impala, a massive grin over his face.
