A/N: So... I've done these things for Anthony Horowitz's Power of Five, and I've seen loads around here (Harry Potter) only none (that I've seen) about good ol' Voldy. So... voila! Slightly for humour... I do hope you find it funny. And some are more serious. Erm, enjoy, and tell me what you think xD

10 Things You Didn't Know About…

Voldemort/ Tom Marvolo Riddle

10) Avada Kedavra. What beautiful words. Tom had grown up knowing Abra Kedabra as the magic words. And here was real magic, being so similar to what he had grown up knowing. He had come across it in a book and – as luck would have it – he was taught about them in DADA only a few months after. The way they flowed... those were his new magic words.

9) Regret? Yes, Voldemort had regrets. A lot, actually. Like when he was fifteen, he shouldn't have kissed Sally-Anne when he was dating Celia. And allowing Dumbledore to scare him. And he regretted trying to kill Harry with the wand – a knife would have broken the protection. What he didn't regret? Actually, there really wasn't much he didn't regret.

8) When he had heard about the prophecy, Voldemort began to feel a bit like Tom. Tom had killed, yes, but they were for a reason. And none were babies. But Tom was dead in Voldemort; it was just the memory that had risen. Which Voldemort repressed, and later realised that maybe Tom was smarter than Voldemort gave him credit. 7) Tom had always wanted a large, loving family, mainly because that was a thing he lacked. That was a deep dark feeling that lived in Tom – indeed, in Voldemort too, but was ignored more and more over the years, yet never forgotten. Voldemort had planned to get himself a wife after killing baby Harry, but that wasn't going to happen when Voldemort had no body left. And then he realised something. Very few women fall in love with men whose greatest desire was to kill a boy.

6) Tom never could fly well, so he disguised this by marking his dislike for it. He said he hated how it made your eyes stream, the wind annoyed him, he couldn't hear well. The reality was, he loved the exhilaration, how free it made him feel, only when he flew he often fell off. It was a bit humiliating really.

5) Tom had actually been terrified of snakes for much of his early life – maybe up until 7? The way they slithered… it was really creepy! But then he learnt he could talk to them. Now he wasn't scared of them; they were scared of him.

4) The name. Lord Voldemort may be an anagram for 'Tom Marvolo Riddle'… but Voldemort is also French, literally translated as 'Flight of death'. Yeah, Tom wanted something sophisticated and effective. French? You don't get a higher point of sophistication.

3) Tom had braces in 3rd year. He didn't want them; he tried to curse them off once. He never knew how great muggle orthodontists were – the braces stayed on. He even tried casting a Glamour on them but it didn't work. He just got a letter from the ministry. And then he wanted to try on the train only his friends found him before he could. And so he stuck with it. That year was the year that braces became popular in Hogwarts.

2) Voldemort hadn't intended to become white. The narrow slits, the red eyes, the white face. Side effects, he guessed. Side effects from putting his soul in a snake. Next time he'd use something less distinct… Of course, it could be that he was barely human. But the snake was more likely. It fit with the narrow eye-slits.

1) Tom never wanted to be an evil wizard. When he was young, he wanted to be a train driver. And beginning Hogwarts well, he really wanted to be the one driving the pupils to school. Soon after that, he realised that being an evil wizard would be better. Still, he had always planned to drive the Hogwarts train someday. After Harry Potter was dead, of course.
