"BRAIDING HER HAIR" by JustWriter
"What are you doing?" she asked apprehensively as he went behind her and began messing with her hair. Honestly what was he trying to do?
He delicately began untangling her hair from the bottom up as if he'd been doing this for years. "From all of your pouting and sighs of frustration whenever your hair happens to get in the way and your brave efforts of trying to put it up every day despite the lack of a brush led me to try and give you a solution," he answered.
His skill with knots and military strategy suddenly made more sense if he's battled hair nests on a regular basis growing up. When he was halfway through the knots he handed of a big bundle of hair that hadn't been growing from her head in a week or more to a flock of birdlike animals. She'd never seen or heard of their species so she assumed that they never left the island.
When she felt a bunch of the hair attached to her head being twisted around itself she came to the conclusion that he was braiding her hair; it was nowhere near as long as Ty Lee's had been in the past but she considered it quite an interesting experience, nothing like getting her hair combed in water but infinitely more intimate. She imagined that had her mother ever devoted time to doing her hair that this is what it would feel like, not that she thought of him as her mother though.
She again wondered how she had ended up with him on a deserted island. They'd tried several times to escape but the tide was too strong and the razor sharp coral reef that surrounded the entire island was difficult to plan around, especially when neither of them was a waterbender.
She couldn't wrap her mind around how they'd begun to get along but she knew that there was no place else she'd rather be than with the man who loved her like no other had; not even her father whom she'd often tried to please while growing up. He was her rock to cling to, a stable person whom she could always count on.
A/N: Why does nearly everyone draw Azula with her bun? If it's post series then why, when she doesn't even know how to do her own hair? So I made a cute story where Sokka braids her hair because I'm sure that he's had lots of practice with this skill considering that Katara is his sister and they don't have brushes or combs in the Southern Pole (that we know of).
