Something There
There's something sweet
And almost kind
But he was mean and he was coarse and unrefined
And now he's dear
And so I'm sure
I wonder why I didn't see it there before
Hermione Granger was sitting out. She didn't know why, she just was. Maybe it was because for the last year, the only boy that she ever wanted to dance with her was too far out of her reach.
She found that whenever she turned her head away, she always knew where he was. Her eyes would invariably turn back to him, and she would go into a daze.
She wished he wasn't so clueless. Maybe then she could get him to understand her. Maybe then, she could get him off her mind.
So when he came up to her after the dance was over, and asked if she wanted to dance, all she could do was nod. As he held out his hand, she looked hesitantly into his eyes.
When he smiled encouragingly, she clasped his hand and stood up, brushing down her dress.
Just as they reached the dance-floor, a slow song started, and Ron pulled her close, resting his head on hers.
She decided that she was going to let him go… after this last dance.
She glanced this way
I thought I saw
And when we touched she didn't shudder at my paw
No it can't be
I'll just ignore
But then she's never looked at me that way before
Ron Weasley was like any other boy his age: utterly clueless. But when it came to Hermione, he knew everything he needed to. He knew that she watched him when he wasn't looking.
He wasn't sure when his feelings had started to change. She had always seemed so bossy and was such a know-it-all that it actually bugged him just being in the same room as her.
This year, everything was changing. He still wasn't sure how, but he could feel it.
As he held her close in his arms, he thought of how this might be the last time he would ever get to dance with her. They might not live through this war, would probably never get to see each other again.
The song still flowing around them, Ron stopped moving. Hermione looked up at him in confusion, wondering what was on his mind.
As he leaned closer, Hermione closed her eyes. She wanted to just feel. This was likely all that she would ever get.
Well, who'd have thought?
Well, bless my soul
Well, who'd have known?
Well, who indeed?
And who'd have thought
They'd come together on their own
Harry Potter smiled as he watched the dance floor. Ron and Hermione had caused the whole room to go still and silent with their display, but no one seemed to mind.
It might have been a wedding they were attending, but Ron and Hermione put the recently wedded couple to shame.
And Harry didn't mind in the least.
You know, perhaps there's something there that wasn't
there before
There may be something there that wasn't there before
