Emma looked up from where she was reading the back of a supposedly instant pancake box to see her girlfriend twirling in the middle of the aisle. She rolled her eyes, and put the box back. Wrapping the taller girl in a hug from behind.
"Stop being so adorable." She muttered against the brunette's jacket.
"Why?" Ruby asked turning in the embrace. A pout on her lips.
"Because you're making me want to kiss you." Emma replied. Giving the brunette a small pat on the cheek before pulling away a bit. Scooping their basket back up off of the ground where she had set it.
"Then kiss me." Emma turned back around in time to hear that demand. Complete with the challenge in her eyes. She bit her lip, and glanced around the store. She wasn't so sure about public displays of affection like this. But she knew that Ruby would be hurt if she refused.
So she set her basket back down, re-closed the space between them. Leaning onto her toes so she could look her somewhat taller girlfriend in the eye. Those heels didn't help. Before placing a gentle kiss on Ruby's soft lips. Quick and barely a brush of the lips. Ruby was obviously unsatisfied.
She curled her fingers into Emma's shirt and pulled them back together. Whispering, 'that wasn't a kiss.' Against the blonde's lips, then giving her a real one.
They broke apart again to a disgusted noise being made somewhere behind them.
Emma turned quickly. Ruby's hand balled in her shirt sliding into her hand, and tightening like a vice.
"I thought living in a small town would keep my children safe from this kind of thing." One of the citizens that Emma thought she knew the name of ranted angrily. Giving them a glare that could kill. Disgust contorting her seemingly bland features into a mask of hate and revulsion.
"And from the sheriff nun the less. This is just disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourselves." She scowled. The woman took a few steps back, and nearly bumped into Mr. Gold standing behind her.
Ruby grimaced sure this was just going to get worse from here.
"I don't see how Miss Swan, and Miss Guise's love lives is any of your business." The man broke in, in his all knowing tone. "Next time they should keep the affection in public to a minimum, sure. But it is nothing disgusting, or to defend your children from." He tapped his cane against one of the shelves in thought, and frowned.
"If anything you should be ashamed of yourself. There is nothing wrong with kissing your love in public, I'm sure you have. You are simply making yourself look ignorant." He shook his head pityingly.
The woman opened and closed her mouth several times. Obviously at a loss for words at being scolded by one of the most important people in Storybrooke.
"It's unnatural Mr. Gold. Even worse that they're flaunting it in public like this." Her scowl lost it's potency with the quiver in her voice, and Mr. Gold gave out a sigh.
"It's very natural to love, and show it. Now please move on your way, and leave these two young ladies alone." The woman's scowl deepened, and she angrily moved around them and down the aisle. Making sure to create a large berth between her and the couple still standing there shocked. Shocked that Mr. Gold of all people had defended their relationship.
"Mr. Gold.. Th-thank you." Ruby spoke up when the women had moved out of hearing range. Voice cracking in a bit of disbelief. Mr. Gold had never been very fond of her. Emma was still glaring at the woman, trying to place her.
"Nothing to thank me for. I just don't think people should judge other's love... and I didn't want the sheriff having to charge herself with an assault and battery charge. Now that would be awkward." He looked from Ruby to Emma. Who was attempting to cool herself off from the anger the woman had fanned in her.
"See you around then." He limped off basket in hand to the checkout. Neither had expected Mr. Gold of all people to have such grand views of love.
