Summary: It took him 18 years to learn that Harry was never the enemy – he was just his brother. If only things hadn't been how they were – if only . . .

Starting Over

You were born a bundle of joy;

Apple of your parents' of the eye.

They loved you, pampered you

Worshipped you even more –

Your every wish was their ultimate

Command.

.

.

You grew up spoilt and bratty,

And quite a snob.

Thinking you were the only one who mattered

(for you were made to think that – it was never really your fault.)

.

.

You were mean and a bully

Your cousin, Harry was the poor soul you unleashed your horror on.

Your parents adored you and never said a word.

They encouraged you every time.

You cracked humor at his expense.

Even if it wasn't funny (never funny.)

You carried it on for years and years,

Until one day, Harry did something that you'll forever owe him;

He saved your worthless life.

(Even if at that time you didn't think he did.)

.

.

Time passed – things started to confuse you

You started to look back at your actions

And tried to make amends

But old habits die hard, don't they?

.

.

Soon came the time, when you had to man up

You didn't know whether you would see Harry alive again

(And that hurt you – yes, it did.)

You swallowed your pride and arrogance

And said the words, "Thank you, Harry."

You could see the shock on his face,

But you knew that there was –

So much more which you could have said

For what you said was nothing!

It wasn't great – it was lame.

It was merely a sorry, and it was nothing.

It hardly sufficed.

But in that moment, it was all you could do.

And it was all you did.
