Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. It is not mine.
A/N: This is the first chapter of a story I am writing for the 'becasue of LOVE challenge.' I chose
Charecter: Romilda Vane
Prompt: Because, just look at him, he was perfect and give her five good reasons why she shouldn't get him.
"Give me five good reasons why I shouldn't ask him out again" she asks me, curling her hair round her index finger, she was facing me, but her eyes were on him. Harry Potter, the chosen one, the boy who lived, the famous sixth year who had every girl in the school under his spell.
"Um..." I start, giving Romilda Vane five reasons not to do anything is practically impossible. She may be absolutely mental, but she's my best friend. Always has been always will be. She may have heaps of other friends, guys trailing at her feet, girls asking her for advice on dating and make up, but I've known her since the days of sticky hands and mud pies and that counts for something. I'm the only boy in school whose heart she hasn't tried to break, but that's how I like it. Friendship with Romilda is great, but dating? Not bloody likely.
"Well," I continue, "It's not like you have ever followed my advice."
She grins.
"I promise I will leave him alone if you find five reasons for me not to ask the gloriously famous harry Potter out."
I find it hard to believe her, but for his sake as well as hers I know I have to find five reasons. Especially as it's OWL year and there is not a way in hell that she would learn anything this year if she was going out with Harry Potter. Because I know he'd agree if she asked. Every other guy has. He may not have gone to Slughorn's party despite the love potion I know she slipped him, but he's a nice guy, far too nice to tell Loony (I should probably find out her real name) Lovegood that after all he can't go with her.
"One," I begin, "It's fifth year and you need to fill that pretty head of yours with something other than air."
She gives me another grin, "Ok, I'll give you that one."
"How else are you going to get to write for the Daily Prophet?"
"Your right, as always" she tells me, "Although I very much doubt Rita Skeeter learned anything at school."
I nod in agreement.
"Two," I continue, "Ginny Weasley for sure has a crush on him and no offence, but she could most definitely beat you in a duel."
"I thought she was going out with Dean Thomas?" Romilda asks me excitement building up in her eyes at the hint of gossip.
"And aren't you technically going out with Jacob Karowski?"
She rolls her eyes, "We so broke up,"
I smirk.
"Ok, three…" I start, already beginning to run out of ideas, "You've got to keep your options open, if you move on to Harry Potter already then who will be left? Neville Longbottom that's who and no offence to him, but seriously even you have standards."
"Eugh," she grimaces, "Your right, but you still need two more reasons and you seem to be slowing down."
"On the contrary," I proclaim, "I am just getting started."
It's a lie of course. She's right I am slowing down, but that fact is something Miss Romilda Vane may never know.
"You do realise considering the fact that we've been friends since practically birth I can tell when you are lying,"
"Damn," I curse under my breath.
"Mark my words," I will think of something,"
"You have two days," she says "and then he's all mine."
She flounces off to bed leaving me with a six page essay for transfiguration to complete and two days to figure out the impossible.
Life is sweet.
