Happy not-Valentine's Day, everyone.
Mello hated the holidays. He hated every single one of them, except for Halloween. Getting free candy was the best thing anyone could ever ask for. He'd keep the chocolate and give the rest of the candy to Matt. Chocolate was his goal. But as much as he loved chocolate, he avoided the holiday that celebrated the giving of chocolate to a loved one: Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day was nothing significant anymore. Just a commercialized holiday that mocked the honesty that was supposed to come with love. The only reason why people wanted to be with someone was so they wouldn't be alone on Valentine's Day. People are stupid, therefore the holiday is stupid.
Plus, Mello had no one he wanted to call his "valentine" and he never did. Not even Matt had ever become his valentine. They had started dating about two years ago after Mello confessed his love to Matt when Matt was about to get married to Linda. Once his love was confessed, Matt surprisingly returned his feelings and left Linda.
But even after all that, Matt knew that he would have to be insane to even suggest to Mello that they should be valentines.
So it was no surprise that Mello forgot the holiday after years of training himself to completely ignore it.
He came home from work, dead tired and just wanting to throw his clothes off and pass out in bed.
Matt had left to go on a two-day business trip before Mello had woken up that morning. Matt left him a little note saying that he loved him and he would see him in two days. Without Matt there, Mello would be able to go straight to sleep when he got home.
When he walked through the door, he turned on the lights to the apartment and found little Hershey kisses lined up one-by-one in a row leading somewhere.
What the hell? he thought.
It was an unusual sight that he did not see every day but it didn't take a genius to realize that he was supposed to "follow the trail".
He dropped his briefcase on the ground next to the door and loosed his tie. Then he bent down and picked up the little chocolates. He would be damned if he refused any chocolate but picking up every single one of them turned out to be a pain in the ass.
By the time he had picked up all the chocolate, he had gone around his apartment including but not limited to winding around his couch, the coffee table, in a circle around the kitchen, and then finally to his closed bedroom door.
All the bending over, shuffling forward a bit, and then picking up the chocolate, and repeat only further reaffirmed his hatred for the holiday.
But when he opened the door, a shocking sight beheld him and his breath caught in his throat.
Lying in the middle of the bed was Matt, sprawled out, naked, and dripping chocolate sauce all over his chest.
He gave Mello a lascivious wink and beckoned him forward coyly with the wag of his finger.
"Happy Valentine's Day, love."
Maybe Valentine's Day wasn't so bad after all.
The End.
