The Knight from the West By Aimee Yi

Chapter 3

"Who are you?" Aragorn asked slowly.

He rose up from the stone stool. "I am a wanderer of a thousand places, I came by no name yet with a thousand names. I do not know which will please you."

"Your King asked you for a name! Not for a senseless riddle, Stranger!" Boomed a dwarf.

Aragorn shot him a gentle silencing look.

"Any name would please me, as long as it does for you." Aragorn replied.

"Then name me by the title of Eldar." The Stranger said. "But ask me no more because then you will force me to lie… to a King." Then he met Aragorn's eyes. Aragorn gazed back.

Eldar's eyes were a color of dark amber. It quiet matched with his light tanned skin which only shown on his bare hands and his scarred face. His rugged black hair was untended to and his cloak was dark and shabby compared to the other's extravagant robes.

Aragorn gave a small nod. And to the others he said, "what would you propose me do?"

"We should prepare an army! Bring together our forces and reunite!" A dwarf shouted out.

"No! If this is only a delusional rumor, then our efforts would be in vain." Spoke up Lord Elrond. "We have to be sure that this knight exists and that his aim is to destroy us and bring to Middle Earth a dark doom."

"How can we be sure?" Ĕomer said.

There was a silence.

"I last heard from a reliable source that this Knight from the West was last seen around the Iron Hills, in the East." Legolas piped up.

Aragorn looked at him. "And how long ago was this?"

"Ten nights ago, sire."

Aragorn stared into the distance, at particularly nothing. He frowned. Who was this stranger? And what would he be doing in the Iron Hills? There was only one way to find out.

"We will need a scout, he shall set out to find this mysterious man, and capture him if possible." Aragorn decided.

"Then who are to go?" Gimli said.

"I will!" Legolas and Eldar said at once. They looked at each other with strange distaste and curiosity.

"But I can spot this knight within a thousand miles, and under my bow he will surrender!" Legolas announced.

"Yet, I am the wanderer of a thousand places so I have the stealth and mind to track my prey, and then ambush." Eldar said.

"Then you will both go." Aragorn said, and then called out to one of his men, "Prepare horses! You shall go in the morning. This council ends!"

That night was a cool autumn night. Legolas was in his chamber preparing for his journey.

"Let me go Elf Prince, the night is young, I track better in the night." A voice said. This did not alarm Legolas, for he knew it was the stranger named Eldar.

"We will go in the morning. I will not disobey the orders of our king, and neither shall you." Legolas said calmly.

"I listen to the orders of no king, as no one can stop the free wind." It was all he said before leaving the chamber.
