~Hush, little baby, don't say a word
Daddy's gonna buy you a mocking bird
And if that mocking bird don't sing
Daddy's gonna buy you a diamond ring
And if that diamond ring turns brass
Daddy's gonna buy you a looking glass
And if that looking glass gets broke
Daddy's gonna buy you a billy goat
And if that billy goat don't pull
Daddy's gonna buy you a cart and bull
And if that cart and bull turn over
Daddy's gonna buy you a dog named Rover
And if that dog named Rover don't bark
Daddy's gonna buy you a horse and cart
And if that horse and cart fall down
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town~
Tommy McNally could remember singing that song to his baby girl for days after his wife left him. It was the only thing to get her to calm down after one of re nightmares, usually of everyone in her life leaving her alone. He could remember singing it to her after every bad breakup in high school.
Hell, he even sang it to her the night she graduated from the academy. And the night she came to him after she found out that Luke Callaghan cheated on her. He sang it to her over the phone that night she had shot someone, and then confessed she had already tried going to her T.O. for comfort but screwed that up. Tommy had to laugh at that; she couldn't have screwed it up too bad after all he walked her down the aisle right into Sam Swarek's arms only a year and a half ago.
And now a year and a half later looking down at his new born granddaughter singing her the same song, watching as she drifts off in his arms, Tommy looks up at his baby girl exhausted resting back against the bed as she watches him with tears in her eyes and her husband sitting there holding her in his arms. Tommy couldn't remember another day he had been happier.
"So what are you going to name her?" He asked the new parents looking back down at the precious bundle in his arms smiling when he notices that she had grabbed the neck of his shirt.
"We were thinking of naming her Samantha Eden Swarek." Andy replies softly. Tommy held his breath and looked up smiling at her.
"After my mother, thank you sweetheart, it's perfect. Samantha Eden you have the best parents any little girl could ask for."
End
This came to me as I was singing my own little boy to sleep. Hope you enjoyed it
