Soul gasped for air.

Where the hell is she?

The grassy plains seemed to go on forever. Suddenly, his ears twitched. Someone was whimpering. His heart thudding, Soul spun around and ran in that direction.

It was Maka.

"Maka!" Before he could stop himself, he threw his arms around her. "Thank goodness….thank goodness I found you.." Maka bit her lip, tears coming to her eyes.

"Are you ok?" Soul mumbled, embarrassed by what he just did. He spotted her blood stained shirt and noticed a big gash along her arm.

Must be from that beast we just fought.

He let go of her and hoisted her onto his back. He sighed with relief. "Let's go.."

"Ouch…let me try to walk!" Maka begged. "I can walk."

Soul began to get irritated with her begging so he plopped her down on the grassy plain. He crossed his arms and glared at her. "Okay, let's see you walk." Then he walked away. He was worried about her. And now, all she wanted was to walk by herself. Maka glared at his slouched back, and made an attempt to get up. Little did she know, not only had she cut her arm deeply, but she also twisted her ankle. She gritted her teeth as pain shot through her ankle. Not one to give up, she limped along, making about 5 steps before she stumbled.

Growling, Maka got back on her feet, when all of a sudden, she took a wrong step and her already twisted ankle slipped into a hole made by a gopher. She cried out and fell backwards, bracing herself for the fall. Strong arms suddenly wrapped around her waist, bracing her to a chest.

She glanced up to see Soul grinning at her. "It would be uncool to leave you here wouldn't it?"

"Soul…" Maka blushed as her gently lowered her to the ground. He gently pulled her ankle out of the hole. She cringed as pain shot up her spine. "Come on." Soul smiled and lifted her onto his back.

They began the long journey home.

Something tickled Soul's ear.

"Thank you Soul." Maka's breathing evened and she fell asleep. Soul grinned.

"Anytime Maka. Anytime."
