Penguin

Disclaimer: I don't own Detective Conan nor Magic Kaito... I am Detective Conan and Magi- okay, no. Just no. waaah.

"What's this?"

"A penguin, tantei-kun."

Shinchi sighed. "I can see that, but what's it for?"

Kaito tried to look taken aback. "I can't give presents to my favorite detective just because I feel like it?"

Shinchi cocked an eye brow and, walking away, tossed the tiny stuffed toy back to Kaito. The teenage magician swiftly reached out to catch it.

"Hey! This cost me a lot!"

"I don't want it, Kuroba. If the jewel from your last heist is in there, you can give it to Nakamori-san."

With the swish of his cape, the part-time phantom thief was instantly behind Shinichi, lips close to the detective's ear.

"So you know that you're my penguin, and never forget it. "

Shinichi felt goosebumps forming at the whisper- unsure whether he should blush or shudder. He turned to face Kaito as the penguin toy flew smack into his face and fell into his hands.

"Til next time, tantei-kun!"

With a snigger and a smoke bomb, the magician was gone.

ooo

Rustle. Clatter. Shuffle. Scatter.

The Great Detective of the East was slightly exasperated, rummaging through his drawers looking for his house keys. He was already late for an investigation. He didn't need this right now.

"I know I always leave them on my desk! Where could they be?"

He opened several more drawers and something round bounced onto the floor. Shinichi sighed again and scanned the room for the fallen object. He saw something glisten by the foot of his bed and bent down to reach it.

"YES! Here are my keys!"

The detective was ready to leave when he noticed a small penguin toy near the door. Crap. He completely forgot about the little present KID gave him weeks ago.

He rolled his eyes at the memory and tossed the penguin on to his bed. He'd worry about it later.

ooo

Shinichi Kudo was lying in bed, having a staring contest with a tiny stuffed penguin.

It seemed to be winning.

Those tiny beads for eyes just freaked him out a bit. The mere fact that it was from Kuroba already made him feel uneasy.

Shinichi looked at it with distaste. "Honestly, what does he expect me to do with it?"

Gingerly, he brought it up to his ear and shook. Nope. Nothing there. Probably not a bomb...

He studied it, noting how it fit in the palm of his hand and how its light blue coat was soft but a little dirty from being tossed around.

He squished it. No explosion. It seemed harmless and adequately fluffy.

"Huh. Guess it's safe."

After debating over it for a while, he placed it beside him and drifted to sleep.

Little did Shinichi know that a certain phantom thief was celebrating at the other side of town.

ooo

A groggy Shinichi opens his eyes and spies a familiar blue shape in front of him.

"Morning Kaito-kun," he says while gently patting the penguin. Shinichi stretches and proceeds to strip off his clothes to change.

Meanwhile...

Kaito Kuroba was enjoying his latest gadget: a tiny camera that can transmit feed almost halfway across town. It took him forever so it wouldn't make as much as a whir over a whisper. God knows that the slightest sound from the penguin-cam would make the paranoid detective chuck it out the window.

He laughed to himself and started ogling at the screen as Shinichi took off his shirt. No, he was not a pervert. He was just cataloging behavior for future disguise purposes. *Cough* Really.

After being blessed with the Shinichi Kudo show for almost two weeks now, you could say that Kaito was obsessed. But he was actually happier than he was aroused- I mean intrigued. Shinichi actually kept the penguin; he even slept with it! And to top it all off, he named it Kaito.

The phantom thief felt himself smile.
It was nice to know he was Kudo's penguin too.

Did you know that when a penguin finds its mate, they stay together forever? :)
