Your eyes will now forever light up the clouds. With that stunning shade of blue that can never be copied.
I'm glad I took that last glance at them. Even though I didn't realize it was going to be the last time I'd see them. Had I known, I would have sat there and memorized the shade until your last breath.
I was wrong. I'll admit it. I was horribly wrong.
You probably don't need me to tell you how many rooms they filled with tears. I don't need to tell you how much it broke my heart even more to see their eyes glistening as the tears spilled out.
Sometimes I wonder: what it would have been like if I had not been the one who found you. I… I thought you were only sleeping. That must have been your naïve attitude rubbing off on me. There was a sliver of hope. Hope that when I would gently push your shoulder; I would be greeted by those captivating eyes of yours.
You just slid. You slid against the tile floor like you were nothing of a being. As if you were never a living, breathing creature.
Never. Never again will I ever find someone like you. You were more than what others may have made you out to be. I could look at you and smile. Your innocence was the most precious trait about you.
So innocent.
So innocent and frightened. Frightened from the world around you.
You know, right?
You know that we tried, right? We tried our hardest to protect you. They tried their hardest.
I know that now.
I can't help but think that we kept our promise. That promise to keep you safe. What safer place than the clouds, where you can be free.
Carefree. You can be worry-free now, sweetie.
No more scary noises in the dark. No more bad guys. No more pain.
No more.
Your eyes will now forever light up the clouds. With those beautiful blue eyes that will forever be engraved into my memory until the day I no longer have to remember them.
The day I see you again.
