Again
A/N: This is my first attempt on the Escaflowne circuit because I'm usually doing Gundam Wing fics! But this came to me at the bus stop and I had to write it! Disclaimer: I don't own it!
It was happening again.
She could feel it rising up to get her, to consume her. She could feel it even before it struck but she kept running. God she didn't know why but she kept running. That urge seemed to keep her at it.
It was happening again.
Out of no where it struck. Engulfing her body in pain that reached every part of her. She rose from the ground heaving in air, afraid to breathe any slower. She felt herself going, leaving this plain of consciousness. But when her foot hit the track she was brought back. She was still running.
It was happening again.
She was starting to increase speed even with the pain she still kept running. It was all she was. Her footing was growing clumsy as every spiked foot found a different place to rip at the track, instead of the well rhythm stride she was accustomed to.
It was happening again.
Her strides became heavy but still she increased speed trying desperately to find what she was looking for. But she still didn't know if there was anything there or what it was she needed. But she hid behind the mask and searched even without a map of what she had to do.
It was happening again.
The pain intensified as she buried her spikes deep in to track before ripping them behind her and leaving a trail if track rubber. The rubber would catch the light of the setting sun making it look like a trail of fire left from a phoenix. A dying phoenix.
It was happening again.
She was close to the end, her heart burning as if lava was flowing through it, not blood. Her left foot ended awkwardly and a pulse of pain shot up it. Then it happened. That moment if freedom. That moment where your totally free, where you feel light.
It was happening again.
The feeling didn't last as she came crashing to the floor. Realisation struck as she gasped for air and seemed paralysed, unable to move. Her body collapsed to the floor. She was only a few meters from the finish. She had to finish. But who was she proving, herself, her family, him?
It was happening again.
With a shaky breath she tried to rise but her body wouldn't listen. There was only pain, that numbing pain. So she lay there in the pit of her sorrows. She could feel the vibrations of oncoming feet and hear their cries. But she some how felt detached like this wasn't happening to her. She could imagine the scene of her pitiful body lying on the track with everyone surrounding her with concerned faces.
It had happened again but she wasn't sure if this time she would rise again. If she would rise like a phoenix, Hitomi was dying. Of all the things running in her mind one word stuck in there.
"Van."
