She stuffed her hands in her pockets. It was a little chilly outside. It was chilly on the inside, too.

She wasn't quite sure of what she had done. Yes, she had left the BAU. Yes, she had handed in her gun and badge. And yes, she had shot him. But she didn't know if any of them were mistakes.

No, she rationalized. They weren't mistakes. Lee was the unsub. I did it in self-defense. I did it in self-defense. Self-defense…

She was doubting herself. And it annoyed her. She never second-guessed herself. She was always right. She never made mistakes. And she never got hurt. What was happening to her?

When she had handed in her gun and badge, it had felt as if a weight was being lifted off of her shoulders. She didn't have to carry the weight of being a profiler anymore. But it wasn't that easy.

The job had made her jaded. She didn't trust anyone anymore. Her eyes became shifty. And she smiled less.

She tensed up each time she turned a corner. She was walking home from the BAU. Something she did routinely. It was a safe walk home. But she felt more vulnerable without her gun.

What was she going to do now? It wasn't like she was ever going back to the Bureau… and she wasn't going into police work. I could write a book, she thought. But nobody would read it.

She went through a list of professions in her head. But she didn't think any of them would work out. I've got no prospects, she thought. What the hell have I done?

"Excuse me, miss." A deep voice cut through the darkness. Elle turned around. "Do you know where Jimmy's Bar is?"

Elle relaxed. "Yeah, if you go that way, it's 2 blocks up."

"Thank you," said the man, who looked like a shadow in the blackness.

Elle turned around to continue walking.

"Oh," the man said. "One more thing."

Elle turned around. She saw the shadow pull out a silver gun that reflect the moonlight.

Elle froze. No, she thought. Not now. Not tonight. This can't be happening.

"Thanks for all your help, miss."

BOOM.

Elle was thrown to the ground. He had shot her in the abdomen. She was still breathing, but she didn't how long she would still be able to breathe. She heard footsteps. She saw the man's shadowed face. He smiled, then ran away.

Karma's a bitch, she thought. And then Elle exhaled her last breath.

So I haven't decided if this is just a oneshot, or if I should turn it into a team case. I'd appreciate your suggestions and reviews! Thanks :D
