Mermaid Dream

She opened her eyes to find herself immersed in water, with rainbows sparkling all around her, flitting back and forth. She moved forward to see what the little rainbows were and saw they were fish, their beautiful silver scales shining brightly as the sun cut through the water. The water itself was so clear it seemed to not really be there and was rippling around her fire red hair, causing it to splay out all around her. The fish darted about so fast that if she blinked she missed it. She watched as they swam and wished that she too could swim as fast as them. The water around her started to bubble and circle around her in spirals. The bubbles turned blue and green and pressed themselves against her. They seemed to melt and flatten as they turned into scales that changed her legs into a beautiful blue-green tail. Her eyes grew wide as she watched this transformation. The bubbles disappeared and the water stopped swirling.

She shot forward with a quick spin of her tail. She laughed and the water rang and vibrated with the sound. The fish swirled around her in excitement. She flicked her tail and spun through the water, her long red waves spinning around her. The fish darted in and out of her curtains of hair and, using their tails, spun it into intricate patterns, weaving strands around and through the others. She laughed again and the water rippled, as if it responded to her voice. The wave pulled at her hair, unraveling the weaves the fish had made, and they squeaked in surprise.

One of the younger large fish swam up to her face and poked her mouth with her tail. The girl smiled and sang a verse of one of her favorite songs. "It's a marvelous night for moon dance…" The sun light shining through the water changed to moon rays, and the waves swayed back and forth to the sweet sound of the young girl's voice. She switched songs and sang, "I wanna dance with somebody, with somebody who loves me." The light changed again, looking almost like strobe lights. All the fish swam up to her and wiggled back and forth, flashing their tails and flipping around, all of them attempting out do each other. She laughed and flipped over backwards in the water. She closed her eyes and smiled brilliantly. Her red hair spread out behind her as she threw her arms out to the sides, as if welcoming the water that surrounded her. She heard a loud beeping sound and opened her eyes only to see her ceiling. She lay on her bed with her arms spread and her legs were wrapped tightly in the sheet, almost as if they were really a single tail. She smiled and turned off her alarm clock humming, "It's a marvelous night for a moon dance…with the stars up above in you eyes..."
