Return of the Sith

Definitely AU- The Sith Empire was never destroyed. No,they would fall, retreat, and eventually rebuild. Finally, after watching for many hundreds of years, the Sith finds a great weakness in the Republic. The Clone wars have begun.

Prologue

The Sith Empire still lives. They watch us, as we fight The Clone Wars, waiting for the time when the Republic and Confederacy are weakest. When that time comes, and it will come, we are doomed.

But let us not get ahead of ourselves shall we? Lets begin just after the Sith lost The Great Hyperspace War. When Republic warships attacked the Sith capitol of Korriban, the Emperor did not die. No, he fled, with as many of the sith people as he could. On great transport ships, they fled Korriban looking for a planet to start a new empire on. Soon they found Dromund Kaas, a swampy inhospitable planet, full of strange deadly beasts. There the Emperor decided he would rebuild his empire. Hundreds of years passed, and the sith grew in power. They had subjugated hundreds of worlds and even won an alliance with the Chiss.

Finally, the Emperor thought he had enough power, and in one savage swoop took control of half the galaxy. Years passed, and neither Sith Nor Republic had lost or gained any real ground. Though they were powerful, infighting between sith lords had begun to cripple the war effort, and soon the Republic took Dromund Kaas. Though the Emperor was never captured. In reality he fled, again with his sith subjects, to again rebuild an empire.

Hundreds of years before this, Revan, one of the most powerful force users ever, fled the galaxy. He went on to start a hidden branch of the Jedi Order. They called themselves the Grey Order. Unlike the Sith who only used the dark, or the Jedi who only used the light, the Grey Jedi use the full force. This made them extremely powerful, at least by Jedi or Sith standards. For many years Revan recruited followers, and eventually they built the temple on Thengol, a planet deep within the Unknown Regions. Thousands of years later, the Grey Order grew to be 250,000 members strong. It was no surprise then that just a few years before the Clone Wars, the Grey Jedi made contact with a resurgent Sith Empire.

The first engagements were horrible. The Grey Jedi had no formal military, and had to convince the various civilizations that they once protected to aid them in the coming war. Yet the Sith Empire did not absolutely crush them, no not yet. They want to save their military might for the Republic. So all the Sith did was send small fleets to stop the Grey Jedi from gaining any systems in their Empire. Eventually the Grey Council learned of the Emperor's plans to leave the Unknown Regions and attack the Republic. The Grey Ones knew that the Republic must be warned. Little did they know that the Republic would most likely not listen to them, for the Clone Wars had already begun.
