Caroline looked down at the body and closed her eyes as tears threatened to spill, though she knew it was only a matter of time before she collapsed with uncontrollable sobbing. A hand gripped her shoulder, and she snapped round to glare at the person through blurry eyes, only to see Elijah. He had an expression much like hers; tears threatening to spill, the pain and hurt clear for anyone to see.

He was dessicated, and the witch who had done it was dead. There was no way to bring him back unless they could find a descendant of the witch who had done this.

Caroline was angry. Furious. Livid.

He had waited for her to love him for fifty years, and just when she had finally fallen for him, this had happened. He had waited for her. Caroline shook her head, the tears finally spilling. Elijah saw this and pulled her into the circle of his arms, pressing his face against her soft, blonde curls, gripping her body tight as he tried to comfort her whilst experiencing his own inner turmoil.

"I love him, Elijah."

"He knows." The eldest Mikaelson reassured her, as her arms hesitantly wrapped around his waist. She was seeking solace in the only person around who could understand her pain.

"We can get him back, right? We can bring him back to us?" Caroline questioned, her voice barely above a whisper, though with his vampire hearing, she knew Elijah had heard. She was afraid that he'd hear her fears seeping into her voice if she spoke any louder. She knew it would wobble and shake, just as she knew her body was.

"I promise you that I will bring my brother back to us."

Caroline nodded into his chest, before she turned her head to look at Klaus' grey, vein-y body immobilized by a spell, frozen forever with his eyes wide open and his mouth firmly shut. He had redeemed himself in her eyes, helping them defeat Silas, defeating the evil in New Orleans, becoming a good father to his and Hayley's son. Hayley was dead now, but Rebekah had helped Klaus raise his son, until Caroline had come along. Now Caroline would be the one needing help.

As she stared down at Klaus' body, she felt a new wave of determination wash over her, and she turned away to look up at Elijah.

"So do I."

And she had never meant anything more in her life.
