Rain.
Asuka had never liked the rain, but today she welcomed it. It stole away her tears, ensuring that no-one would see them.
She traced her eyes down the metal pole signifying the grave. Her eyes briefly paused on the small plaque at the base, reading the name.
"Shinji Ikari"
Reading the name still felt wrong to her. She choked back another round of tears, turning towards Misato waiting at the car. Walking towards Misato, Asuka began to think.
'This is wrong. I'm supposed to be the strong one. That idiot wasn't supposed to die. I was supposed to kill the angel and then gloat about it later. But the great lord Shinji had to go and be a hero. He had to step in front of me. He just had to take the angels attack full force. I'm not worth saving.'
She didn't say anything to Misato as she got in the car. She hadn't said anything in the weeks after Shinji's death. She hadn't gone to school. She hadn't done anything. But every Sunday she visited his grave. Of course there was no body; the angels attack completely obliterated that. But the marker was enough to remind her that she'd never see his stupid smile again. Or ever hear him play that stupid cello. He'd never be there to listen to her complain about the boys at school. She hated to admit it, but she loved him like a brother. And she missed him.
