Chapter One: The Treehouse Returns

It was a Monday afternoon. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and Jack and Annie were sitting on their front porch. They were bored.

"Hey, Jack," Annie began, kicking a pebble and watching it hop down the stairs, "are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"Um, no..." Jack replied, maturely taking off his glasses and wiping them clean.

"Well, I'm thinking that we go play in the woods," Annie said, pulling Jack to his feet.

"Okay, fine. Let's play catch." Jack said.

"Yay!" Annie said while going to get the ball.

"Mom! Jack and I are going to play catch in the woods. Seeya!" Annie said, happily skipping out the door.

"Wait! What about lunch?" Annie's mom ask.

"Oh. We'll have that later." Annie said walking out the door with the ball in her hands.

The moment Annie went outside, she took Jack's arm and rushed him to the woods.

"Woah there, Annie, why in such a hurry?" Jack asked.

"I want to play before lunch." Annie said, sounding very excited.

"Okay, Annie. Let's play. Should I start or you start?" Jack questioned.

"You start." Annie said, tossing the ball to Jack.

So Jack and Annie played until they both heard a loud boom. It was coming from somewhere in the forest.

"Did you hear that, Jack?" Annie asked.

"Yes, I did." Jack replied.

"Let's go check it out." Annie said.

"But are you sure it's safe?" Jack asked, worried.

"Come on, Jack. We've done unsafe stuff before." Annie said, dropping the ball into the grass.

"Okay," Jack moaned.

They ran to the woods, and quickly headed towards the tallest tree in the woods.

"Jack, look! It's back!" Annie said, tugging on Jack's sleeve and pointing up.

Jack looked up and saw the tree house that took them to lots of places in the past.

This time, their friends from Camelot were not there. When they went up the ladder, they both saw a scroll.

Jack, without hesitation, opened the scroll and read out loud:

To Jack and Annie of Frog Creek

This time, you will be going to a place in modern time, as it's facing a certain crisis right now. Follow my rhyme to complete your mission.

-M

"Looks like it's from Merlin," Annie noted.

"But where's the rhyme?" Jack wondered, flipping the scroll over.

It wasn't there.

"Jack, I think it might be in that book," Annie said, pointing to a book in the corner with a piece of paper sticking out of it.

The cover read Mythology.

Picking it up, Jack took out the piece of paper. Indeed, it was the rhyme. It read:

A modern crisis has proceeded,

To a person's dismay it has not receded.

Use mythical knowledge,

And the people will be freed-ed

In Merlin's handwriting, it said: I couldn't find a suitable word that rhymed.

Jack and Annie giggled. .

"Let's figure out this poem," said Jack.

"Okay. After we get to the place we're supposed to go." Annie replied.

"Where're we going?"

They sat in silence, looking around.

"Look, Jack! There's a book over there!" Annie cried, pointing.

Jack walked over and picked it up. The cover read Washington State.

"Oh. Maybe we'll get to wear normal clothes this time."

"Aw! I liked our different clothing!" Annie whined.

"Let's just go."

They pointed to the picture on the front cover and said together, "I wish to go there!"

The wind started to blow.

The tree house started to spin.

It spun faster and faster.

Then everything was still.

Absolutely still.
