Luffy, King Of The Hearts

Title: Luffy, King of the Hearts

Author: forevernyu

Pairings: Luffy/Zoro.

Summery: This is a tribute to the charismatic captain and to the strong connection between him and his first mate. There is no action in this fiction. It's just a glimpse of Zoro's heart. The bound between those two can be breathtaking don't you think?

Warning: Minor spoiler for the Enies Lobby Arc.

Disclaimer: I do NOT own One Piece but I love it!

AN: This was edited thanks to Aven (Blu-Calling). Have a cookie!

The Straw Hat crew, each and every one of them, was drawn to their simple-sounding, weak-looking and easy-going captain.

The boy was like a burning torch giving them hope and warmth, leading them from one adventure to another all the while making them stronger, happier and closer to fulfilling their own dreams. They all felt deeply grateful and incredibly proud of the little captain. But their faith in him wasn't nearly half as strong as his first mate's was.

Zoro had reluctantly agreed to serve Luffy without knowing anything about him. The boy sounded like nothing more than a dreamer and Zoro was sure he had chosen the worst captain ever. Then, without noticing, he found himself engulfed in Luffy's simple, righteous and dream-filled world. A world of wonders indeed.

His captain had astonished him more than once with wise words and a reliability that were very uncharacteristic of him. But it felt right to see him so dependable when faced with something awfully wrong. Zoro felt like he watched Luffy hatching and giving birth to a new legend. That same happy-go-lucky boy had stunned him time and time again and he felt all the more chained to his captain. So much that he could no longer imagine a life without him. He was now sure he could DIE for him with no regrets other than leaving him behind before seeing him finally recognized as the Pirate King he was meant to be, undoubtedly. And what a wonderful and charismatic king he would be.

Zoro cracked an eye open, interrupting his nap to watch over the said captain. And sure enough he was there where he expected him to be: perched at his self-proclaimed 'throne' on the prow. He was enjoying the sun, his right hand pressing his infamous straw hat on his head while he took deep breaths filling his lungs with the sea breeze and, although he couldn't see it, Zoro could easily picture a wide grin on his face.

Who would have thought that behind Luffy's childish grin lay a total belief in dreams, a tremendous amount of courage and a willpower never yet called upon. Despite his looks, Luffy was not weak. Quite the opposite actually. He had a strong will, a generous heart and an unwavering faith in his crew members. Sometimes he looked so vulnerable always laying his heart bare on his hand, yet it seemed like Luffy could accomplish ANYTHING with sheer determination. So, how was Zoro supposed to protect such an overwhelmingly powerful person? And a very dear one at that.

Zoro was in dire need of power. Being the best swordsman was not enough, not anymore. He needed to catch up to his captain in order to become his strength, his shield, and his companion at all times. No matter how cheerful or how reliable he could be, Luffy shouldn't bear all of his crew members' dreams alone. And Zoro wished he could help him with his burden, he wished he could be the one to catch him whenever he collapsed from exhaustion. Oh, how he wished to be strong enough!
