Helpless

Disclaimer: The stereotype… X does not belong to me… this fanfic does, so you'd better think twice about stealing… *bares teeth* Though I wouldn't know why one would want to… ^.~

The house lay in ruins. Rubble surrounded the couple. The entire vicinity was no more but a field of granite, brick, blood… Seiichirou stared in shock at the remnants of his house, or what used to be his house. "Shimako-chan… Jyou-chan… iiya…" He muttered under his breath, uncomprehending, refusing to comprehend. Karen stood beside him, grimly assessing the damage. Her heartbeat was quicker than was usual when she inspected the ruins, its cause probably due to the tall man s~~~ding beside her, whose shoulders were slumped, face a mask of agony.

I want to help him… hold him and comfort him. But… why does it seem so hard……?

"No… WHY? Don't die… please don't die…" Seiichirou was openly weeping now, kneeling on the rubble, his tears falling freely onto the blood-stained rubble – his precious wife and daughter's blood. Probably the only light in his life in these dark days. Karen felt a sharp pain in her heart, and pity overflowing for a heart so broken. She wanted to tell him that life wasn't over, that there was someone else who loved him, and many more who cared about him and that there was still a battle to fight.

But… he's so crushed; the light of his life has been extinguished… But… why can't I reach him? He's just there… a short way off… Yet my feet feel like metal… they don't want to move…

Karen knew she had to go help him. Forcing herself, she slowly walked over to the trembling man, the one she had loved long, yet would never admit it. "Aoki-san…" Karen gently lay a hand on his back. "Daijoubu ka?" He turned at her question, and she almost recoiled, so great was the pain in his face. That peaceful, cheery light in his eyes was gone, replaced by a limp, off-focus darkness.

            Don't look at me like that… I can't bear it…

"Karen-san… I don't want to live anymore…" At that, Karen flared up (Author: O.o Not literally… considering that she's fire type) and shouted, "Baka! Are you going to give up halfway? Don't you know many care for you? There are probably others who love you too!"

Like me… can't you see that? It hurts me to see you in this state…

Tightly, Karen hugged him, never wanting to let go. Seiichirou returned her embrace burying his face in her shoulder. She smiled, for the wetness on her shoulder was not unlike that in her eyes…

I'm sure we can do it. Together, we can embrace the future and all of its harsh reality…

Letting go of this friend whom she knew could never love her in that way, Karen bent down and picked up a piece of rubble.

Author's Note: Aaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!! Aren't I really cruel? And VERY melodramatic? I'll never be good at romancey stuff… *sighs* I got a h.u.g.e writers' block while writing this. Also, I took out most of the Japanese sentences, knowing that they are off, and that I'd have to explain to those who don't comprehend. And I know Karen would NEVER call Seiichirou-san "baka". -_-; Hai… anyways, please r&r…
