Author's Notes: Inspired by smeachan's Puppy Eyes icon at the IV LJ Comm. While I adore Sana and Jin's interaction, I love the awkwardness between her and Jo even more. It's like he doesn't know what to do with her when they're alone. Cute
Silence. It was a reprieve from the usual noisy chatter and singing (Gora) and the sounds (the truck) he had come used to. In the silence, he was able to hear himself think and let his mind wander a bit. Leaning against the steering wheel of the truck, he stared ahead but not really looking. He had nearly dozed off when he heard the slight rustling of clothes next to him.
Oh, of course. He'd almost forgotten about her in the silence.
Jin's little princess.
She was fidgeting; he could tell from the way the old springs under the seat squeaked ever so slightly and the sound of her clothes swishing. Probably anxious for her knight in shining armour, he thought, not in an unkind way. It was sort of cute at how attached she was to Jin and that hero-worship crush she so radiated whenever around him.
"...um," she began, tentatively.
He eyed her, softening his expression to less scary and whatever that is non-threatening to kids. Not that she'd see it since half his face was hidden behind his arms and the furry collar of his jacket.
She asked if they could talk and began talking about Gora or something other.
Talk. Huh. He didn't like talking much. Talking just to talk uselessly or listen to the sound of your voice was, to him, a waste of time and energy. He only talked when necessary and needed. Silence was much better than all the noisy chatter.
She lapsed into silence when no reply from him was forthcoming. Instead, she began to shift in her seat and peer out the window again. As if looking at the abandoned supermarket would make Jin come out faster.
He took pity on that forlorn expression and opened his mouth to say something. And the first thing that came out was Gora's name. How... odd; he didn't even like that brat much.
Instead of being grateful that he was now talking, she jumped (nearly to the ceiling of the truck) and scolded him, telling him not to do that when she least expected it. He found that she was rather cute when she got all cross; cheeks puffed out and pouting adorably. No wonder Jin always indulged in her demands.
He trailed off his sentence instead, making her curious and wanting to know what he'd been about to say. She edged closer to him, eyes large and so very blue, as she began to chatter. This time, she was asking how he and Jin met and became friends or something along the vein. In the midst it, he caught sight of the light coming from the rear of the truck and instantly clamped his hand over her mouth. She let out a muffled squeak in protest but fell silent when he told her to. Good girl.
After he took care of the police officers, and they were on their way again, he belatedly remembered that she had allowed herself to come close to him without any of the previous fear and apprehension whenever she saw him last time. It seemed that she was no longer afraid of him.
And then, he fervently hoped that she won't bestowed her hero-worship on him.
Owari.
