For Brad. Because yes, much as Sora/Riku is my OTP, Sora's feelings on the matter are entirely ambiguous.

There was a balance. Like a seesaw. Kairi sat on one side, and Riku on the other. Both weighing exactly the same amount in Sora's heart, neither pulling for more. Because if either pulled, then it became a tug-of-war with weak, fraying rope. If they pulled, then Sora would come apart, and neither of them would ever have him whole.

Then, without warning, Kairi tipped the scales. Became dead weight in her seat. And Sora slid down the bar towards her. Virtually into her lap. And Riku felt the distance grow. So he began to swing in his seat. Each time he hit the lowest point, Sora would slide just a little more towards him. But then he'd swing back up, and that ground was lost. Then, Kairi stopped being dead weight, became light again. And Riku hit a deep low. Sora slid towards him.

Then came the change in pattern, because as Sora slid towards Riku, Kairi started to slide towards Sora. They met, halfway down to their friend, and both of them reached out to pull Riku up. Slowly, they shuffled to the middle bar. Together. Kairi's hand holding Sora's holding Riku's. And then, all at the same time, they realised.

Seesaws were stupid.

Aaand back to the other eight fics I have, waiting to be written.
