Important
Her time with her Constable was leveling her head. Walking over to Interpol with flowers in her hand, she was ready to start another day with him.
Prior to this day, the two had gotten into a fight. While Sly desperately tried not to reveal he had faked amnesia, Carmelita was pushing further and further into learning the truth. Once the argument got too heated, things went silent. They had not been talking to each other for a week.
By the time she arrived at the office, he was not there. Reality has dropped down on her again without warning.
"Oh, hello, Inspector," Winthrop greeted as he took out a few files from her drawer.
"Constable Cooper," she began with a tone of confusion. "Did you see him?"
"Oh, he turned in his uniform a few minutes ago," he answered.
She dropped the flowers in shock.
'Stupid Ringtail!' she thought angrily as she left the grounds. 'He didn't even go so far as to admit it!'
The news just made her day turn sour. Along with some unwanted rumors she didn't want to hear, it became too much for her and she left. For now, it was important to clear her head, the Chief told her.
She stopped at a park and sat down on a bench. Carmelita took out a bracelet with a red star charm on it. Sly had given her that bracelet one day on break. He had gotten the same thing, only with a blue charm, and the two wore the bracelets frequently except for at nights or when on duty.
Resolve solidified in her. She put the bracelet back on her wrist. 'Cooper, I have to find you,' she vowed. 'But I'm not sure if I want to arrest you for breaking a heart.'
Which is more important?
The fox looked around. Taking out her shock pistol, she stood up and walked forward, aiming all around her line of vision.
I'll ask again: which is more important? Your love for that thief, or your job as a cop?
She closed her eyes and pondered it for a moment. True, her job as a cop did come first. And that was to arrest those who had infringed or broken the law. The fact that Sly may now be reverting to crime again was breaking her heart, for the rules would have to have her chase him again.
But then again, there was a small yearning for her to join him. She was beginning to fear that people wanted her out of the police force. They saw her taking in Cooper as a betrayal and had broken the code. And the police was starting to corrupt all due to circumstances beyond her control.
She opened her eyes, now devoid of regret.
"My love for Sly," she answered, dropping the gun.
Hearing something, she looked up at a tree. Though she spotted nothing there, she secretly revealed the bracelet to that tree.
Inside that tree, Sly watched from within the leaves as she showed him the bracelet. He took out his own and put it on his wrist. He hopped off, a weight having been lifted off his shoulders.
'It's not over.'
