As for flames, they are not needed. If you don't like the topic, and or characters don't read the work, no one is begging you to.
And as far as constructive criticism goes, it'll take it. It is one of the things that I see as a double edged sward, it helps me get better in my writing, yet it is still painful to see that I am flawed in my writing.
