Truth
"Bex" I said but she wouldn't let me talk.
"No, Every day, every time you tell me something, I can't help but wonder if you're telling the truth. Wonder if you're going to run away again. It scares me that I can no longer trust you. I'm not sure how this can be fixed." She said coolly,
I didn't know how to respond as I stared at her. On some level I knew that this was coming but with every word she spoke it felt like I was being stabbed in the chest by a thousand knives.
As Macey's eyes connected with mine I knew that she felt the same way as Bex. When I looked at Liz she was looking at wooden floor but I could see that her eyes were forming tears.
"Liz," I tried but she just shook her head at me.
"You left us Cammie." Her lip trembled a bit but she continued, "Do you know how it felt to find your report? Did you know that your mom was shaking while she read it or that Macey was panicking? That Bex continually shuddered, that I was physically sick, that your aunt was trying not to show any emotion but failed miserably. No, you don't, so just stop, okay because I really don't want to hear it." Towards the end of her rant she was yelling and tears of hysteria were running down her face. Then she stormed out of the room.
I was about to go after her when I felt someone's hand on my arm keeping me in place, it was Macey.
"Don't," she said,
Bex shoot out the door, I could hear her calling Liz's name. It was only Macey and I left in the room. She looked at me, rage and sadness were evident in her voice and her eyes as she said, "The truth hurts but at least you know." Then she starting walking away,
She was at the door when I called her, "Macey,"
She turned and said, "Yeah",
"Why haven't you said anything? I mean Bex and Liz have, so why haven't you? I figured that you would have the most to say." I asked honestly,
She studied me for a few seconds before answering, "Oh, believe me I do but I think that Liz and Bex have said plenty for now. You and I are going to have a chat soon but now you need to try and understand where they're coming from and find a way to fix this."
"What if I can't?" I asked my voice was barely above a whisper. I felt scared and helpless,
"You will, you always do." She gave me a small sad smile then went to catch up to Bex and Liz.
I was left in the room alone, wondering how things got so out of control and how I could fix this.
