What if Katniss was pregnant? One Shot.
They were already in the arena, competing in the Quarter Quell against the rest of the tributes. At that point, they were simply walking ahead of Mags and and Finnick who were taking a small breather. It wasn't exactly the safest thing to do, but Katniss wanted to talk to Peeta without their watching eyes.
"So- what do you think we should name him?" Katniss asks Peeta to break the silence.
"Wha-" Peeta sounded confused.
"The baby- what do you think we should name him?" Katniss repeated, noticeably touching her stomach as she kept walking.
"Katniss we've been over this-"
"I know, just humour me. So far there's only a chance that you'll survive and mourn the both of us-, I'll be left alone with the baby mourning you, or all three of us pass."
Peeta looked like he didn't enjoy the idea of talking about it.
"Come on-" Katniss begged. "At least let me live with knowing my husband had some input on our sons name."
Peeta thought for a moment and sighed. "Well first of all," He began. "what makes you think we're having a boy."
Katniss didn't actually know why she kept saying it was a boy.
She shrugged. "I don't know- I mean I guess I just alway pictured having a boy first if I ever had kids. Why, are you against us having a boy."
"I'm not against it- but if I'm completely honest. I kinda want a daughter out of this deal."
Katniss looked at him. "I could work with that..."
Peeta gaped at her. "Well then, you sound so~ hesitant. I might as well just relay all the reasons I want a daughter."
"Okay!" Katniss feigned interest. Peeta nudged her.
"First: I think my mom would like having a granddaughter."
"Your mom would definitely go for that." Katniss agreed.
"Then," Peeta continued. "I'd have an ally when it came to dealing with you in the mornings."
Katniss gasped. "I am a morning person."
Peeta shook his head grinning. "No, you were a morning person before the Capitol introduced you to coffee. Now you're a total grouch!"
Katniss punched his arm weakly. "Your no better! Plus, I think I've done considerably well since pregnant women can't drink coffee."
Peeta nodded. "This is true-however you are still worse than me."
Katniss laughed. "Just think about how much our attitudes are going to rub off on this kid. He's going to be one heck of a smiling antisocial that likes to use a bow, bake cakes, and drink coffee in the morning or else he'll glare at the world until it crumbles to dust."
Peeta laughed for a moment, then stopped. "Why do you want me to say all this now anyways?"
Katniss halted completely, the two were simply standing among the trees. "I don't know- I guess...if I do escape this think with the baby. You'll be gone...and...when he-"
"Or she." Peeta put in.
Katniss's lips turned back into a grin for a moment, she continued. "When he or she comes into this world- whether they ask me to or not.. I could just turn on the recording of this game and point to you and say 'that's your daddy and he fought so you could be here' "
Katniss couldn't really tell if she was crying or not at this point, all she knew was that Peeta pulled her into one of his signature comforting hugs and held her.
"Just-" he sighed. "Whatever you do...Please. Please. Do not name him Haymitch-if it is a boy...and I know she'll kill me, but no naming the baby Effie if its a girl."
Katniss laughed bitterly. "I promise."
"And if it really is a girl...I kind of like the whole flower name thing your dad started."
Katniss pulled out of the hug and nodded. "I like that idea too."
Somewhere in the Capitol, hundreds of people were fighting back the PeaceKeepers as this played out.
"Baby KILLERS!" A woman shouted.
Yep.
The war was won.
This is a one-chapter fic that I just couldn't resist writing. I'm glad you liked it. If not please reread because I think your hating on a completely different story. Haha! I'm all ego. :) :D :P ;)
