A/N This is dedicated to my best friend Skazmi. Happy Bday! Love you! Enjoy :)
NEW A/N With the help of Naranne I redid this little drabble. She is seriously amazing, and she helped me so much. Thank you!
Fireflies
I shivered as the cold wind rubbed against my arm, and James snaked his arms around me in an attempt to keep me warm. He had set up a beautiful midnight picnic for our second anniversary; I gazed around with a grin of wonder on my face. We had taken time off from Auror training, and he'd laid out a soft, red checkered blanket for us. There was a variety of food. Apples, berries, pasta, sandwiches, anything you could think of. It was in the middle of the forest so it was dark out, but the amazing fireflies flitting about between the trees left us some light. It was perfect – he was perfect.
Suddenly, I felt the cold again. When I turned around, I realized that James was standing up. With a glint in his eyes, he took my hand and lifted me up so that I was standing, too.
"Lily Evans, I love you, and I promise to love you forever. Auror training has made me realize that we never know what's going to happen. We'll never know what day's our last, especially with… well." He paused, a dry twist to his mouth, before he brightened. "I want to make the most of it. I want to spend every living second with you. I want you to marry me." His words had all tumbled out in a rush, and a nervous grin now hung around his lips. I was unable to stop my gasp as he gently slid down onto his knees.
"Will you marry me, Lily?" he asked hopefully. I looked at him in shock as he pulled out a platinum ring with white gold stones. The glistening stones were arranged in heart shape. It was gorgeous. I looked down from the ring and realized that he was still waiting for an answer. But there was a whirlwind of emotions in me. I was speechless, I had no idea what to say. This was all happening so fast. I needed time to think. I'm responsible, I never just make an important decision without thoroughly thinking about it. But when I looked his warm, inviting, hazel eyes, I knew my answer. I wasn't sure how to respond, so I answered with a kiss.
When I drew away, James laughed with relief. "So is that a yes?"
"Yes, you silly toerag!" I replied, laughing. His tense shoulders relaxed and he chuckled. I cheerfully gave him a somewhat watery smile, and he pulled me into a warm embrace.
It was perfect.
He was perfect.
