Bones yawned. He had been working late nights for weeks and would have fallen asleep at his desk again if it wasn't for Nurse Chapel pushing him out the doors. The coffee in his hand wasn't helping as much as he had hoped. He needed at least another twenty cups. But it would have to wait as Gaila and Uhura were coming towards him.
"Another late shift?" Uhura asked. "You're wearing yourself down to the bones you know." She put her hands on her hips. "And I'm getting tired of dragging you away."
Gaila giggled. "Well it does give you a chance to see Nurse Chapel."
Uhura scowled at her. Bones might have found it funny if he wasn't so tired.
"Nothing some coffee can't fix," he drawled. He checked his watch, probably not enough time for twenty cups.
"I hope you're not spending Valentines Day stuck in the office," Gaila said.
He had completely forgotten about that. He didn't want to admit it but the holiday reminded him how lonely he was. There hadn't been anyone since his ex wife. For a while he had tried flirting with Carol but she hadn't been interested. It was fine though. Relationships were unneeded stress anyway, his blood pressure was high enough as it was.
Bones shrugged. "Might head to a bar." Maybe a fling was what he needed. Something uncomplicated. "Right now, I'm going to find a stronger coffee."
Gaila was waiting outside when Bones exited his office. "I found someone for you. I think you'd really like him."
"I'm fine," Bones said.
"He doesn't expect anything serious and," she lowered her voice, "he's great in bed. I can personally vouch for that." Gaila winked at him. "I'll message you the time and place. You could use some fun."
Ah, what did he have to lose? "Alright."
Gaila went off, a spring in her step. Later in the day Uhura found him.
Seven o'clock. Green Tulip Cafe
Bones had reluctantly agreed to make it easy for his date to spot him. He was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, he had gotten years ago on vacation. The girls had told whoever it was to look for that.
Two men walked over to his table and he wondered if either of them were his date. God, he hoped one of them were his date. A hot blond with the bluest eyes Bones had ever seen and an equally hot Vulcan. Both men were dressed casually but the Vulcan was as straight backed as someone wearing an Academy uniform. Both of them stopped in front of his table.
"Jim Kirk."
"I am Commander Spock. Are you Leonard McCoy? A mutual friend of ours asked me to meet him here."
Bones leaned back in his chair and ran his hand over his face. "Yeah, that's me."
The blond and Vulcan eyed each other.
Jim took the other chair out and sat down. "Well I'm only a cadet but definitely more fun than this guy." Jim grinned, a devil may care grin."You are as cute as Gaila said you were."
Spock found a spare chair and joined their table. "Nyota said a great deal of things about you," he told Bones. The way the two were side eyeing each other wasn't even close to subtle.
Honestly Bones couldn't help being flattered. It wasn't every day that two hot men fought over him. He picked up his menu. Might as well make the most of it.
If there is a cafe by that name it's a coincidence.
