Jasmine's Visitor
"Boys and girls, today we have a special visitor." Mrs. Rice told all 23 of her kindergarten students.
The kids perked up excitedly.
"I want you to be on your best behavior ok?"
"Ok." They said happily.
"Alright, our mystery guest can come on in." She said.
Jackie stepped through the door, holding one of her favorite read aloud books.
"Mommy." Jasmine said happily as she raced to her.
The day before Jackie's special visit Jasmine's class had a parent reader day where several of the parents were aloud to come in and read their favorite story to the kids.
Nick had been scheduled to come in but it landed on the same day he was due in court to present evidence in a murder trial and he could not get out of it, he tried desperately to but he just couldn't, luckily though it was a surprise to the kids which parents were coming so Jasmine hadn't been disappointed he couldn't come.
When Jackie found out that Nick couldn't make it she tried to get Chelsea, the school's regular sub to sub for her for half the day so she could go into Jasmine's room but Chelsea had already committed to another teacher so instead of finding a sub she didn't know Jackie had asked Mrs. Rice if it was ok if she come in the next day instead, Mrs. Rice readily agreed to let her which worked out great for Jackie because her students had library today which meant Jackie could go into Jasmine's room and not have to get a sub at all, which was good because as it turns out Chelsea was subbing in one of the other kindergarten room for the day.
"Hi." Jackie told Jasmine with a huge smile.
"You get to sit over dere." Jasmine said as she led Jackie to a rocking chair, remembering what her classmates' parents had gotten to do the day before.
Jasmine then tried to crawl onto Jackie's lap because that is what her classmates had gotten to do when there parents came in to read to them but Jasmine couldn't sit on Jackie's lap. She scowled as she tried again but again failed.
"Here sweetheart, sit right here." Jackie said as she patted a spot right next to her instead of right on her lap.
Jasmine sat down and then turned to her classmates who were all awaiting the story and said "My baby sister too big, me can't sit on mommy's lap."
Jackie and Mrs. Rice burst out laughing and the other children giggled.
"I didn't think you guys knew if it was a boy or girl yet?" Mrs. Rice whispered in Jackie's ear.
"We don't." Jackie whispered back.
Jackie then turned her attention to the kids and began reading them the story.
When Jackie was finished reading the story the kids clapped for her.
"Thank you, and thank you for being such good listeners."
"Alright kiddo, mommy has to go, I'll see you after school ok?"
"Stay?" Jasmine asked.
"I can't stay sweetie, I have to go get my students from library but daddy will be here to pick you up after school and I'll see you when I get home ok?"
"Ok." Jasmine responded sounding a little disappointed.
"Bye guys." Jackie said as she waved at all the kids.
"Bye Mrs. Stokes." The kids said, except for one little boy who waved and excitedly said "Bye Mrs. Lady Ma'am."
"Bye." Jackie said again chuckling, before she left the room.
Jasmine was so happy her mommy could come visit her classroom, even if she couldn't stay!
