He's right, Sirius sighed, staring forlornly into his half-empty glass of firewhisky. The ice melted into iridescent rings that would glisten like rainbows if it wasn't for the colour of the whisky yellowing them out like an old faded photograph. He wondered if he'd ever see a real rainbow again.

Remus sat down on the couch beside him, What? Who's right?

Snape's right, Sirius said, I'm useless.

Oh Sirius, don't listen to him, said Remus, brushing Sirius's hair out of his sad eyes, You know he was just trying to hurt your feelings. No one in the Order really thinks that-

I meant to Harry, Sirius said, turning his head away. The ice softly clinked together and cracked with the motion. Tiny yellow rainbows shimmered where they fractured. I should be taking him to Quidditch games, buying him things, making sure teachers like Snape don't give him a hard time. Like James would have wanted

It's OK. He understands why you need to stay here, Remus said gently, as he placed his hand on Sirius's shoulder.

Sirius frowned, taking another swig of his drink, That's just it! If he wants to talk, if he needs my help, I can't be there for him. I'm useless!

There are a lot of people Harry can turn to if he needs that, He'll be OK, Remus said.

Sirius's shoulders slumped forward. It should be me, he said in a whisper, I'm his godfather. It should be me.

Remus moved his hand in soothing circles over Sirius's back. What would James do if he was separated from his friends? Remus asked. Sirius just shook his head. I'll tell you. He'd find a way. Like that time we all had separate detentions for a month and he charmed those mirrors.

Sirius shook his glass lightly, watching the dull rainbows splinter apart and then slowly reform around the ice. I still have mine, he said, and James'. He took an ice cube from his drink and held it over the glass. A tiny brilliant rainbow clung to it. He sucked at it. I mean Harry's, He said smiling, It's Harry's now.
